๐บ๐ธ They call judges lawfully elected by the Sejm doing their jobs a โcoup dโรฉtatโ. This is a political aberration. Obstructing judges and exerting political pressure on the Constitutional Tribunal is an attack on its independence.
Bogdan ลwiฤczkowski, appointed President of the Constitutional Tribunal in 2024, is a former head of Polandโs National Prosecutorโs Office and a longtime associate of Zbigniew Ziobro. For months, he prevented the new judges from hearing cases. When the European Court of Human Rights ordered an end to the obstruction, he questioned the enforceability of its decision.
According to the Warsaw Metropolitan Police, officers are not conducting operations inside the Tribunal building. They are operating outside to ensure safety and maintain public order. The police received correspondence on this matter from a Tribunal judge and the Prosecutor General. #Poland #polandcoup

On #Poland: I asked Deputy Prime Minister @sikorskiradek at the #G20 meeting in Atlanta this afternoon about what's going on with the police entering the top court and the suspension of the chief justice.
"The constitutional tribunal was politicized under the previous government, and now it has a majority elected by the new parliament in the last three years, and yet the outgoing president was not convening the council of the tribunal -- as a result of which, they were not able to pass even their own budget for next year.
So, what is happening has the purpose of allowing the majority of duly elected judges to make the tribunal function again."
Me: "And the police presence was necessary?"
Sirokski: "Well, the eldest of the newly elected judges felt that because there was demonstrators blocking the building, she asked for personal protection, just to make sure that the due process can take place."
