Now write “the pastoral ministry is not defined by its ability to attract women.”
I will say more tomorrow, perhaps. But you appear to assume that the church's inability to attract a certain kind of young man is evidence of a failure in the church. But the pastoral ministry has never been defined by its ability to attract men who desire leadership, courage, or responsibility. It is defined by Christ, who calls men to shepherd his sheep. There are men attracted to positions of authority who are poorly suited for the pastoral office. There are also quiet, studious men who possess remarkable courage and make excellent pastors. The question is not whether the church can attract strong men according to the expectations of the surrounding culture. The question is whether we are forming and recognizing men who meet the qualifications Christ has established. The church does not merely need more masculine men in some abstract sense. It needs godly men whose masculinity is shaped by the example of Christ, the Chief Shepherd.

This may be it. If so, I wonder if he lied to his wife and her fam, or if they were just too lazy to verify the man wasn’t cheating. The lesson is don’t trust/intermarry with Latino or African (I’m Brazilian happily married to American and I won’t allow my children to do it.)
I’m pretty sure I know exactly why Samuel Sey is having immigration trouble. In my view, several things in the public record suggest that he may have entered the United States on a non-immigrant visa, despite having had a clear intent to marry. If that was not disclosed when obtaining his non-immigrant visa, that would be a serious problem under current regulations. Consider the recent statement from his family:
“My husband Samuel Sey entered the United States legally and has been working ever since in good faith with a lawyer to obtain permanent legal status. Our family is trying to understand what went wrong in the process. In the spirit of Romans 13, our family fully supports and respects American law and are prayerfully working to get him home through the legal process.” What immediately stands out about this statement is what it doesn’t say. In particular, it tells us nothing about why it would take four years of working with a lawyer to obtain that status. Legal Entry*: Initially it was not clear whether or not Sey is (or was) a Canadian citizen, so the mechanism by which he entered the United States was not clear. However, I found a February 14, 2022 interview that he did with Allie Beth Stuckey which makes it clear that he had to obtain a visa to enter the United States (as opposed to entering visa-free as Canadian citizens do): podscripts.co/podcasts/relat… There are three very significant things in that interview: Sey indicates that he entered the United States in the weeks before the February 14, 2022 interview, with the following exchange taking place: “And so speaking of hurdles, let's talk about some of the hurdles, Samuel, that you had to jump over in order to get to Annie in the States. Because I know even up until like couple weeks ago, things were kind of up in the air, right?” “Yeah, man. About the wedding day, people kept asking me when. I said, I don't know. We have dates in mind, but it depends on what happens with the visa. So essentially, so even to get my, so what's happening is in the visa process right now in Canada is this. it's very hard to get an appointment for the visa because of COVID restrictions and everything.” Sey Discusses the Process of Obtaining a U.S. Visa and Going to an Interview in Calgary, Alberta: “Yeah. So I got it. And then finally, I had the appointment, which was all the way in Calgary, the other side of the country. The reason why is because the Toronto embassy, the U.S. Embassy in Toronto, was essentially closed. It has been essentially close to the last two years, which is one of the reasons why I couldn't come over the last couple of years. So I go to Calgary. They approve me. They approve the visa.” Sey got Engaged in August of 2021: “But then in 20, but then from that year, 2019 until 2021, we didn't see each other for two years. Wow. Until I saw her in August, for the the first time since 2019, and then I proposed to her.” We also know that he was married on April 23, 2022: instagram.com/p/DXfpiT0lmBB/ Problems With Potential Visa Misrepresentations: Taken together, all of this is a huge problem for Sey because, under U.S. gudiance, someone who enters in a non-immigrant visa and takes certain actions inconsistent with that status within 90 days is presumed to have engaged in willful misrepresentation: fam.state.gov/fam/09FAM/09FA… And we know that this is a possible problem in this case, because Sey discussed at length going to an interview in 2021 or 2022 in Calgary. However, all interviews for fiancé visas (the K-1 visa) are conducted in Montreal, Quebec: ca.usembassy.gov/fiancee/ and have been since 2016 berardiimmigrationlaw.com/fi…. So whatever visa got, could not have been a fiancé visa. Moreover, based upon my knowledge and experience, if he had declared an intent to marry and remain in the United States to the visa officer, he would not have been granted a B-2 visa and would have been told to apply for a K-1 visa instead. .

We Stand Against Feminism? In a recent article in the New Horizons analyzing the lack of young men desiring the ministry, the author defended the masculinity of the Reformed and Presbyterian officers. He wrote, “We stand against feminism, egalitarianism, and sinful male dominance" ("Where Are the Young Men?"). My prior article demonstrated that there is a problem in our churches, from tone-policing to attacks on biblical patriarchy. This article will dig further into the evidence, focusing on the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). First, in 2001 we have on record a larger number of church officers (43) protesting the majority report against women in combat. Part of the protest reads as follows: “The undersigned do hereby protest the declaration of the 68th General Assembly of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church that, ‘the use of women in military combat is both contrary to nature and inconsistent with the Word of God’ upon the grounds that, ‘This is a ministerial declaration of what is revealed in Holy Scripture, cf. 1 Cor. 11: 14 ...’ Such a position has not been adequately demonstrated from Scripture and therefore cannot be declared as the teaching of God’s Word.” Certainly, some of the men who signed this would disagree with standard feminist and egalitarian thinking. Yet it is just as certain that women in combat is a go-to secular impulse. Second, around the same time as the OPC combat report, Rev. Lee Irons’ wife wrote in defense of gay marriage; he followed up with a post acknowledging his “private opinion” in favor of homosexual “civil unions.” Unlike today where feminism is divided over transgender issues, gay “rights” were pushed by the National Organization for Women on egalitarian grounds. Third, in various ways, men have pushed Christian female influencers, and rarely to any lasting goodness. Aimee Byrd is an excellent example. It started with a podcast, and now she is preaching. Once she was pushed into the masculine realm of public teaching and admonitions, it was only a matter of time. This is clearly an instance of using the means, causes and occasions—and certainly the appearances and provocations—that often dovetail with feminist activity or thinking. Fourth, a last-minute motion was brought before the 2021 OPC GA to use the services of GRACE (Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment). Further examination of the major players around GRACE showed this is not just a group of Christians trying to end the crisis of sexual abuse in the church. They wanted to eradicate corporal punishment of rebellious children, ignore our Book of Church Order (BCO), and eliminate Biblical male leadership. Fifth, in a related matter, a Presbytery in the OPC hosted Dr. Langberg in 2021 to talk about abuse in the church. She was working with (at the time) GRACE. Unfortunately, she was presented as someone reliable. In reality, she taught, “The man is not told to rule over the woman; neither is the woman to rule over the man. They are to rule together, in a duet...” Sixth, we have the 2022 OPC GA hastily denouncing supposed acts of racism before all the evidence was forthcoming, and after further inspection, the complaint was false. This suggested an automatic empathetic response instead of an impartial stand upon principles. Seventh, serious accusations arose in the Presbytery of the Southeast. Their in-depth report of 2025 appeared to described OPC officers operating too close to “believe all women” mentality instead of applying proper objectivity as warranted. Eighth, that same year an article published in the OPC’s Ordained Servant ("The Church’s [Not So] New Fundamentalism") expressed growing concern over so-called “Reformed patriarchal fundamentalism.” It also appears many are uncomfortable with the Reformed teaching on superiors, inferiors and equals. Finally, we have Rev. Mize’s article on Genesis 3 in the OPC’s Ordained Servant in early 2026, where he reworked the pronouncement over Eve as a Christ-and-church text, conveniently removing the fact that Eve is to submit to her husband (in the Lord). Another minister even preached a sermon about Peter’s description of the woman being the “weaker vessel.” The 1 Peter 3 passage was reinterpreted in a similar manner as a Christ-and-church metaphor. Whether any of these facts are equally weighted towards the claim that feminism or egalitarianism has any hold in our circles, I leave for you to decide.

This is fair game and doesn’t imply any viciousness. A new GiveSendGo should have to start from 0 and be done right.

Samuel Sey…. I’m gonna bet: 1. he did apply to a greencard. 2. But applied late, lied or something like that. 3. He was truthful he was waiting on it. 4. Someone tipped ICE or they caught the illegality on some paperwork review just now/lately.

I guess it could be a big lie too… faking everything. It could be he was illegal in Canada too. It could be he’s just a bastard grifter. Maybe his wife didn’t even know half of the facts. You just know either way, we’re getting a book out this. 🤣

Was the very very smart big fella faking he had applied to a greencard then?
I have received a statement from DHS regarding Sam Sey: “On October 21, ICE arrested Samuel Sey, an illegal alien from Ghana, at the Columbus International Airport. Sey entered the United States legally in 2022 but overstayed his length of admission by over four years, in violation of our nation’s laws. Sey has no pending applications and accepted voluntary departure. He will remain in ICE custody until removed from the United States.   “We do not pick and choose which laws to enforce or where to enforce them.   “We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App. The United States is offering illegal aliens $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.” - DHS SPOX As I get more information, I will update.

This is dumb. People think he’s innocent and want to help with legal costs.. If the dude turns out to be in jail unjustly, I hope gets millions.
Why does a minor paperwork issue that’s just a misunderstanding require a GiveSendGo? 🤔

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Does anyone else find the humor in a Give, Send, Go for someone in ICE custody?

Yes, we're aware of Samuel Sey (@SlowToWrite) being detained. Yes, it's likely related to immigration (he is a Canadian citizen, as far as I know). A detainment record is not proof of wrongdoing. At the risk of being too speculative, my understanding was that he was traveling to TN to appear with @JeremyDBoreing, but didn't. Quite possible he was stopped, couldn't provide evidence of legal residence in the US, and was brought back to Butler County (who contracts with ICE for detainment services). Let's hope it's a misunderstanding rather than wrongdoing. We'll report when we know more.
