In January, as Trump threatened to attack Iran to compel it to capitulate, I told a senior Trump official that Iran won't surrender and that their calculation is that they don't need to win the war against the US; they just need to destroy Trump's presidency. They just did.

Here are the numbers from Kent, which is one of the most populous counties in Michigan. The results are clear and the opposite of the conventional narrative. People did split their tickets, but they did so to vote AGAINST Mike Rogers. El-Sayed beat the straight-ticket margin.

The disgusting and frankly racist way Haley Stevens uses Black voters as a prop in her demented and deluded power game is emblematic of a much bigger centrist Dem problem. It is utterly despicable across the board.

Pro-Israel Democrat Haley Stevens has endorsed Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers and is appearing with him at an event in Detroit, helping Trump's bid to retain control of the Senate. Let's be clear about what this is and what it isn't. This is not something fundamentally new. Rather, it is a more open manifestation of a reality that has existed for a long time: Centrist Democrats have always been more comfortable with even the most pro-war, neocon Republicans than they have been with progressive Democrats who question American militancy and blind support for Israel. Everyone in DC knows the personal proximity between figures like Jake Sullivan and Lindsey Graham, for instance. (Read Akbar Shahid's book if you're not in the know) Even before October 7, the Biden team treated progressives with disdain on foreign policy and expected them to blindly follow Biden, just as Biden blindly followed Israel. To be fair, some progressive shops also fell for the line that any criticism of Biden would ultimately help Trump and, as a result, engaged in a lot of self-defeating self-censorship. The silver lining of Haley Stevens taking off the mask of centrist Democrats may be that the reckoning within the party, deferred for so long, may finally happen.

If one more person compares the situation in MI with the Uncommitted movement I'm gonna lose it. Uncommitted was a primary play. By this point in the cycle the Uncommitted leaders were literally running anti-Trump ads. Stop twisting history to justify your own shitty behavior.

In 2016, a friend confronted Ted Cruz over his anti-Muslim rhetoric. He said not to worry, this is what happens in elections and he had Muslim friends. He knows what heโ€™s doing. Telling Americans that electing a Muslim could get them killed is calculated, dangerous incitement.
Sen. @tedcruz (R-TX) says that if U.S. Sen. candidate Abdul El-Sayed (D-MI) is elected into the Senate and is placed in the Senate Intelligence Committee, "there is a very real risk that Americans will die as a result."

If Netanyahu manages to lose, still far from certain, but if, Trump should move quickly to an Iran deal. Pin the war on Netanyahu. Start a reset in the Mid East. It would be the best thing for Trump politically and the best thing for the world. Rarely do these things align.

"The reason I keep bringing up the Palestinians throwing rocks to protect Heidi is because, I mean, I canโ€™t emphasize enough how much these young men areย .ย .ย . Yesterday, they put their lives on the line. There were soldiers there, and soldiers will shoot when somebody is throwing rocks. These young men put their lives on the line to protect a sixty-three-year-old Jewish American journalist. And, I mean, these guys are heroes. If they were not doing that, so many villages wouldโ€™ve been overtaken. They are literally the only defense. [On Saturday] I was in a village called Jalud, and the exact same thing happened. We got attacked by settlers, and it was these young men, whom we call the shabab, who fought them back with rocks. And the reason I just want to put a fine point on this is because, for me, just in terms of where things are going with Israel-Palestine politically, I think that a sort of discursive shift in how we talk about Palestiniansโ€™ right to defend themselves needs to happen." @infinite_jaz to @IChotiner

It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government canโ€™t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But thatโ€™s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, itโ€™s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administrationโ€™s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone โ€” all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And itโ€™s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies โ€” from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omarโ€™s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and sheโ€™s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omarโ€™s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, thereโ€™s no reason to believe it will stop with her โ€” or that future presidents, in either party, wonโ€™t do the same.
