For the first time in history, a sculpture of a Polish commander was placed in a British museum. Since then, it has been visited by thousands of people learning about the heroism of Polish soldiers.

14 June marks the National Remembrance Day for Victims of the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camps.
#OTD in 1940, the first transport from the prison in Tarnów, amounting to 728 Poles, arrived at Auschwitz. Among the political prisoners brought to the camp, there were soldiers participating in the September Campaign, members of underground resistance organisations, secondary school and higher education students, and a small group of Polish Jews.
They were given numbers from 31 to 758. First camp numbers were given to German "criminal" prisoners who arrived earlier and became functionary prisoners.
From a total of 728 Polish prisoners brought in the first mass transport to Auschwitz, 298 survived the war, 272 died, and the history of 158 is unknown.
