I'm proud to say I needed no help or privilege to get where I am.
I achieved forgettable mediocrity all on my own.
It's important to remember:
Sub Rosa is not the episode where "Beverly fucks a space ghost."
Sub Rosa is the episode where "Beverly fucks the space ghost that used to fuck her grandma."
There are, at most, maybe three or four episodes of the whole series I would suggest skipping.
Shades of Gray: Clip shows are insulting.
Code of Honor: Cringey racist.
Aquiel: Pointless filler.
Angel One: Cringey sexist.
Shades of Gray is the only one I skip on my rewatches.
Just gonna toss this out there. Humble suggestion.
How about after Doomsday we ease up on the comic book superheroes for a while? We've been all-in on it for almost 20 years now, since Ironman. It's been a (mostly) good run. Let's let it rest for a while.
5) Firefly
4) Battlestar Galactica
3) The Twilight Zone
2) Babylon 5
1) Star Trek The Next Generation
TNG had a huge hand in shaping my social conscience.
Post 9/11, when the Bush admin was in a full court press to erase privacy rights and legalize torture in the name of national security, I recalled The Drumhead and Chain of Command and I knew this country was selling its soul.

I literally wept in bed last night watching Star Trek and thinking about how many times Captain Picard taught me about morality, ethics, service, community, compassion, and diplomacy. He literally formed core parts of my adult wisdom. He was one of my televisual philosophers. I am not who I am without him.
Technocrats: AI will change everything and elevate civilization to new heights!
AI: Kanye West, Nick Fuentes, Kim Kardashian and Joe Rogan are all smarter than Neil DeGrasse Tyson.
Technocrats: ... Maybe if we turn it off then turn it back on?
Is a billionaire literally invoking Marx with RAM right now?
Because this argument sounds a wee bit "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need."
Funny how such sentiments aren't unthinkable when they align with THEIR financial interests.
This is hitting me harder than other celebrity deaths. I've been sad before. This is actual grief. And I think it's because of the impact Next Gen had on a young me. These weren't just sci-fi adventures. They were morality plays about integrity, courage, curiosity, honor & hope.
Me resisting to maudlin urge to ditch the horror movie-thon tomorrow in favor of bingeing Star Trek TNG episodes and crying my eyes out.
Trek Characters Who Meant the Most To Me:
10) Ben Sisko
9) Garak
8) Guinan
7) Worf
6) Kirk
5) Uhura
4) O'Brien
3) Data
2) Spock

Since we all have Star Trek TNG on the brain at the moment, here is clearly someone who needed some more LeVar Burton in their life.
I love film and television. But they could never replace reading. Reading enriches the mind and stirs the heart. I pity those who don't read.
If I make a bunch of coffee in my Keurig, then pour the coffee into the empty water reservoir, then keep making more coffee, and repeat the process over and over, will it eventually become some sort of super-coffee?
Same people who condemn the entirety of their political opposition, just completely written off tens of millions of their fellow human beings, because they saw videos of four people making light of Charlie Kirk's death.
Same. Exact. People.
That's what the Jews call "chutzpah".
Why am I NOT MOURNING the death of Patrick Stewart?
I first saw Stewart as Picard after having known only Kirk, and I always found him weak by comparison.
Kirk had URGENCY.
Sisko had STRENGTH.
Janeway had FIRE.
Archer had FORCE.
Picard was just a mealy-mouthed liberal reading Shakespeare in space.
Then, in later years, he started lecturing us AMERICANS about politics.
In March 2017, he told The View that his friends in D.C. advised him that the best way to make a difference was to "fight, fight, oppose, oppose" TRUMP.
He said that applying for U.S. citizenship was his way to "fully engage in the American political system and legally oppose Donald Trump's administration and policies."
And he most famously said "The fact is when America sneezes, the world catches a cold. America I think is on the edge of a very bad flu infection and it's because of the man who's in the White House."
And I only grew to hate him more.
Finally, he willingly participated in the destruction of his own character, Jean-Luc Picard, in the first two seasons of that garbage Paramount+ show.
He stood by while they took everything that made Picard GREAT and DECONSTRUCTED it into woke "weak male" garbage.
So no, I'm not wearing black today.
Because when an actor chooses a side - and that side is AGAINST ME - that actor is already DEAD TO ME.
This is just the final nail in his already-closed coffin.

Star Trek TNG had a profound impact on me growing up, and Patrick Stewart’s role above all: the secular, rationalist, egalitarian, post-scarcity (whisper it: socialist) vision of the future, a completion of the Radical Enlightenment project married to a sort of Aristotelian sense of virtue, duty, and deep purpose, a Shakespearean, theatrical-literary, humanist forgiveness and celebration of our foibles and fallenness, and Age of Discovery romantic call to adventure and exploration. I remain a believer that this world can yet be built.
