If we had better airborne infection controls in healthcare, schools etc., we could cut waiting times, improve everyone’s general health and the economy.

An 'inexplicable' decision by control centre led to train collision, says Spain’s transport minister. Planes, trains, automobiles - their safety requires everyone involved to have high cognitive performance. There’s been a lot of accidents recently… bbc.co.uk/news/live/cv1j309d…

University of Hong Kong researchers analyzed 40 airplane outbreaks of COVID-19 and flu. Infection risk was highest near infected passengers. Models found N95 masks nearly eliminated transmission, while doubling ventilation alone was insufficient. pubs.acs.org/esthag/article/…

The widespread acceptance of the idea that 'Covid is over' while people are still constantly getting Covid over and over again.
What’s the weirdest thing society accepts as normal?

For anyone getting into biology, please consider taking airborne disease resistance more seriously. It's a super important area of medicine that is a huge cause of death and sickness but easily gets forgotten. We're likely to get many more airborne plagues in the future due to the combination of not just extremely dense and interconnected society (including city and farm animals), but also accidents from bio research and offensive biotech (both from random people and from secret government programs that can easily get themselves exempted from safety restrictions), all enhanced by powerful AI. Right now, this area is getting way less love than longevity research (which continues to be super important!), but it's an area where there are lots of unclaimed wins that we know exactly how to do (but are not yet doing) with present-day tech: * early detection * passive universal testing * filtration/ventilation/UVC * better vaccines (including making them open source and open science) * cryptography to make all of the above privacy-preserving We can have China-level pandemic resistance with Sweden-level limited intrusion into people's lives, and then go even further. We just have to actually do the work for it.

“They would tell us if it was that bad”. Nope, they told you in 2022 they were delegating the responsibility for public health to you, you just ignored that part.

When the Oxford children's dictionary discarded dozens of nature-words—"dandelion," "fern," "starling"—as irrelevant to children's imagination and replaced them with words like "broadband" and "cut-and-paste," this inspired act of resistance was born: themarginalian.org/2019/06/1…

❄ Did you know that I produce more than 20 different Christmas card designs, all featuring my favourite winter photographs from across the Peak District National Park? You'll find snowy villages, quiet lanes, trees, sheep, robins ... and maybe even the odd gate or two! 💙 If you're looking to send something a little different to your nearest and dearest this year AND support a small business into the bargain, please take a look at these choices... Even better, they're still only £2.00 each, and UK P&P is only ever £2.95, no matter how many you order. 👉 More details and full choices here: peaklass.com/product-categor… Thank you so much.

What a relief! Lula’s unexpected victory gives hope for the Amazon. He has dramatically cut felling, while Bolsonaro’s plans would doubtless have taken it past its tipping point, ensuring total eventual destruction with huge global consequences. euronews.com/2026/10/19/amaz…

The last reservoir in the UK was built in 1992. Since then the population has grown by 12 million people. Combined with climate change we have the recipe for a total disaster. At what point can we start prosecuting politicians old and new.

Have you looked into the ongoing impact of covid and its impact on health services? Would make a good article and there’s lots of research to support this.

If @UKHSA had been more honest & reported on the current covid wave a lot earlier maybe people wouldn’t be so puzzled as to why they feel so ill & why it’s lasting so long.
Has anyone else got this horrific cough that is going around? My husband has almost passed out a number of times because he’s coughing so hard, I’ve stopped him from driving because it’s so dangerous. He went to the dr and she said his chest sounds clear (he is bringing up phlegm and it’s clear) but it’s really awful. He can’t sleep as he’s coughing every 30 seconds or so. The only thing that helped was getting very very drunk! He doesn’t smoke and never has. My 3yo granddaughter has a double chest infection and I’ve also started coughing (it’s not as bad but getting worse). None of us have any other symptoms except for a sore throat and ribs from the actual coughing. Husband sounds like a walrus or something, I’m getting very concerned for him.

My GP surgery actually has a poster up, requesting patients to wear masks now. But not a single member of staff were masked, so patients have no role model. I was still the ONLY masked person in the whole building. My appt was cancelled due to staff sickness, by the way.🙄
