SHAC Article - Peabody Was Convicted. It Took a Resident to Make it Happen The real story here is that regulation & enforcement is left to individuals. shaction.org/2026/08/27/peab… As David says, "No council brought this case. No regulator brought it. I did after other routes had failed to make Peabody comply with the law." There is a devastating faultline within the housing sector - plenty of authorities to give the illusion of state oversight, but in reality, tenants and residents are on their own. Join us to hold all landlords to account.

SHAC Article: We Can End the Conspiracy of Silence: Join MPs’ Call for Action Led by @BellRibeiroAddy, around 30 MPs have called on @mtpennycook to get a grip on housing associations and hold them to account, listing a litany of failures. shaction.org/2026/08/20/we-c… Yet this powerful statement on a subject of major national importance has not generated a single inch of media coverage that we have been able to find. It feels like a conspiracy of silence, even when high-profile politicians are making the call for change. During elections, the media regularly reports that housing is one of the top three doorstep issues for voters. It then largely ignores housing issues when the electioneering stops. If failures on this scale receive so little press attention, and if attempts by MPs to call out the sector are so effectively dismissed by the establishment, it is time to build our own power. @andyburnham & @AngelaRayner

This block dates in its entirety from 1998, when the remnant of the original block (flush with the kerb) was jackhammered into oblivion by careless workmen doing roadworks. The Royal Fine Art Commission, based at No7, forced Westminster to reinstate it in its original form.

Shocking. Residents must demand if heritage damage has been caused and ask for like-for-like replacement to original! #chicester it has happened on our estate and we are demanding conservation and highways council officers to come and meet us today! @TowerHamletsNow

Terrible shortsighted decision. 100% terrible. Amd Not a Joke :-(
Chichester district council has agreed to spend £600,000 making the city’s East Street *worse* by replacing brickwork, that is presently in the middle, with…tarmac. Local government is 🤡 central in this country. sussexexpress.co.uk/news/pol…

The replacement of historic York stone with asphalt in a Tower Hamlets conservation area is not simply a technical decision. It reflects a broader shift in how the public realm is valued, managed, and ultimately diminished under conditions of austerity and rentier capitalism. This article traces that shift from the ground beneath our feet to the wider political economy shaping the UK today. Historic structures that are damaged accidentally or without lawful authority should always be rebuilt as they were. That goes for small gates such as this one at Battersea Park, now fully restored, and big buildings such as amply-insured Clandon Park, owned by @nationaltrust

We’ve joined colleagues across the heritage sector to highlight the risks posed by current proposals for Liverpool Street Station. Change is needed—but not at the cost of unnecessary disruption and harm to a significant historic place. Viable alternatives exist. Read more ⬇️

Shop fronts matter. Get in touch if you’d like us to support your local shop front design code or advise on restoration schemes, incentives & enforcement…
Amazing to see this - in the much-maligned Whitechapel - the other day. Crappy Eighties windows replaced, shamelessly traditional shopfronts built in, design underpinned by the idea that beauty matters. I want to do this in my borough.

@TowerHamletsNow please stop destroying our conservation area and listed estate. The pavement survived 125 years on our estate, an important conservation area. Today an unqualified contractor came and took away the original pave stones and tarmac over the area. Stop all work!

Because of the mud it’s a bit hard to tell if the affected paving is York stone but if it is it should be tracked and recovered asap by the council as there’s a significant black market.

Interestingly neighbouring @IslingtonBC is taking a new, differed approach. Where trees are lifting pavements they’re removing slabs and enlarging the soil area around the trees, planting shrubs and laying mulch. Absolutely no reason why this couldn’t be done here.

This is not a lack of cash but a lack of care & culture.

This is cultural vandalism and should be illegal. Stop ruining our surroundings and making everything ugly. The decline in standards of the built environment is in direct correlation to people's mental health problems.
