Findings from the Dunn House in Toronto showed pairing housing with health care cut emergency visits by 52% and hospital stays by 79%, saving $2.1M in two years. Budget 2026 puts $11.2B toward scaling that approach with an ambitious goal to end homelessness in 10 years.

If you ask Americans whether they want to fund public transit, and explain the benefits correctly, they often say yes. But you do have to ask them!

MP Dr. Strauss is justified in highlighting the ongoing challenges of our opioid epidemic. I attend to opioid users pretty much daily. Let me outline the challenges: 👇👇👇 1. Some patients flatly refuse suboxone. That's pretty common. 2. Many patients have used opioids very recently and just aren't candidates for suboxone. 3. Like Dr. Azar said, they're homeless and there are no shelters. I'm sending the gambler right back into the casino. 4. There are no detox beds. 5. There are no medical detox beds. 6. Off banker's hours in ER there's just nurses and ER doctors - that's when a lot of patients come. Holding them until the morning in ERs bursting at the seams is not tenable. 7. There is not one magic cure for all patients. There's no silver bullet. Some need OAT (Kadian, Suboxone, Methadone) and yes, some with wrap-around support need safe supply (I don't prescribe that). If I was to pick one magic silver bullet to all of this - it is unquestionably to me, as an experienced ER doctor - housing. Stable housing. This is 100% apolitical and we should be able to agree on this. @strauss_matt
What if I told you there was a medication that could reduce the risk of dying from an opioid overdose to roughly ZERO. Most Canadians have never heard of it. It’s called buprenorphine. At the Health Committee, I questioned Dr. Pouya Azar, an addiction medicine specialist with frontline experience treating substance use disorders, about this life-saving treatment. Buprenorphine reduces opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms, helping those struggling with addiction stabilize their lives and begin recovery. Dr. Azar testified that this treatment is basically 100% effective at preventing death by opioid overdose. This raises a serious question about the Liberal government’s approach to Canada’s opioid crisis. Why has so much attention and funding been directed toward ideologically-driven “safe supply” programs while Canadians continue to face barriers accessing evidence-based addiction treatment? Canadians deserve answers about why treatments like buprenorphine are not more widely accessible. If we’re serious about addressing Canada’s opioid crisis, we need to make evidence-based treatment and recovery a priority.

Also: lack of "overlook" appears to be the urban design flaw that's being exploited by home invaders.
‘Overlook' is planner jargon for a neighbour who can see you. Treating it as “harm” when a neighbour creatively and constructively adds to Toronto makes whining a civic duty. Toronto needs to fix it’s city planning language, imho.

Blown away by this “CafeMilan” setup. Whatever we’re doing with CafeTO we should consider doing it differently.

Stelco is efficient and can make steel cheaper than it’s US competitors, so its competitor purchased it and is trying to shut it down.
Cleveland-Cliffs CEO: I bought Stelco because I could not afford anymore having Stelco flooding the market here in the United States to the detriment of my own company. David Cochrane: Am I understanding you correctly there? It was a defensive acquisition?

The Ford government knew there was a scam going on with OSAP at a handful of career colleges. Instead of stopping it, they cut funds to all students. Now they've frozen OSAP for private career colleges that had nothing to do with the fraud. The knew it. They chose not to act.

Will actually make traffic worse and now cyclists will be mixed in with vehicle traffic causing annoyance to drivers.
Finally. The Bloor bike lanes are getting the only treatment they’ve ever deserved: removal. Chow spent years treating a handful of cyclists like the most important people in Toronto while everyone else sat in traffic. Long overdue. Good riddance. #TOPoli

My family declared for the Crown in the 1770s because they didn't believe political legitimacy derived from how big a vigilante mob you had. They resisted in 1812 because they didn't believe "liberty" came from US soldiers looting their houses. MAGA is just the latest version

Is it too much to ask for publishers of articles advocating for cycling routes on secondary roads in Toronto to require their authors to submit a proposed alternative? @RDiManno, is this the sort of secondary route you're thinking as an alternative to the Yonge Street lanes?

I much prefer driving on the Danforth now with the bike lanes, before there were always drivers weaving in and out of the right lane around cars. My only complaint is turning right with parked cars, you can’t see if someone is in the bike lane.
Unpopular opinion: Bloor is better to drive on than it was before the bike lanes. Very rarely stuck behind people trying to parallel park, or who got in fender benders trying to pass each other. Traffic just kinda flows from traffic light to traffic light. The best thing we could do is get rid of some of the traffic lights. That would do way more than getting rid of the bike lanes for speeding up traffic. Lots of T intersections that could do without lights….

I'm increasingly worried that Toronto is going to be like California where we elect more and more progressive politicians and yet public transit doesn't really get better and maybe gets worse. It needs to be a serious priority.

Some of yall just need to unplug from the internet and get back to reality. October 7th was objectively bad. Violence against Jews in North America or anywhere is objectively bad. Saying these things do not make you a Zionist or pro-Netanyahu???
