Ron Darling during that broadcast quoted Roger Angell: "'Since baseball time is measured only in outs, all you have to do is succeed utterly; keep hitting, keep the rally alive, and you have defeated time.'"
"That was a blank sheet of paper at one point," Darling added.

Just an awful take - baseball on the radio is beautiful

@DavidPSamson says MLB no longer needs radio: "We don't need baseball on radio anymore." The former Marlins president predicts on Nothing Personal that "radio will go the way of Kodak and Blockbuster." @JohnMamola has more. #MLB

Tom Seaver.
Yes, Rube Walker, Gil Hodges, and the Mets put Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, and Nolan Ryan on pitch counts.
Seaver's limit was 135 pitches.
Koosman's was 145 pitches.
And Ryan's was 150.
Fox broadcast just said Luis Lara making his World Series debut. He was a defensive substitution in Game 1. Can we get a broadcaster that actually likes baseball to do the World Series? Give me TBS next year. #MLB
Francisco Lindor and his wife Katia had an emotional moment when they found out he had been named the recipient of the 2026 Roberto Clemente Award:
“This is something when our kids grow up, they’re gonna look back and say my mom and dad were very cool because they were blessing others and helping others”

Only the Mets could acquire a guy from the eventual NL pennant winner and trade him to the eventual AL pennant winner.
This game is grinding to a halt with Cleveland’s pitching changes and mound visits. Three pitcher through two innings. The Guardians’ approach to pitcher usage this round is making a strong argument for the double-hook rule in MLB.

Believe me, I understand why it’s an anomaly and business is business, but even if it’s just for old times sake, there’s something really cool about post season baseball during the day. Beautiful afternoon in Cleveland.

With all of the talk about salary caps and floors going on right now, check out this fascinating graphic from @Brooks_Gate showing 2025 payroll + luxury tax as a share of 2024 revenue.
You already knew the Marlins were a small payroll team, but I'll bet you didn't know just how CHEAP they were, putting just 27% of revenue back into payroll. That's a distant last place in baseball, nearly 5 points behind the White Sox.
Spending big isn't just a revenue thing either; the Mets, Dodgers, Blue Jays, and Phillies all went over the luxury tax AND put at least 2/3 of revenue into payroll + tax. Meanwhile the Cubs, 3rd in MLB in revenue, are 26th at 36.4%. The Yankees, sporting the 2nd-highest revenue in the game, are putting less than half of that into payroll + tax.

Cleveland pitchers struck out 21 batters tonight
That’s the most in a 9-inning postseason or regular season game in MLB history

There’s nothing wrong with 162. I love that the baseball season is long. And I don’t think shortening it would bring any additional fans.

I mean obviously the season is way too long. Should cut it by about 30 games.

I *know* a standard weekly off-day would be very nice for travel purposes and frankly for my ability to have slightly more of a social life but consider this: I want to watch baseball daily
MLB has proposed returning to a 154-game Regular Season, best-of-seven Division Series, and opponent selection in the Wild Card and Division Series
Starting in 2029, shortening the season to a 154-game schedule would create a standard weekly off day benefiting player health, and it would allow the addition of up to 8 more Postseason games by moving to a best-of-seven Division Series format
Beginning in 2027, higher-seeded clubs in the Wild Card and Division Series would select their opponents

There’s nothing wrong with 162 games. Teams don’t have enough pitching to get through the playoffs as is. Adding more games in the postseason means more bullpen games

"Additional off days" and "giving pitchers extra rest" - yeah, because the problem now is that we don't have enough strikeouts and 2-1 games in the playoffs.
MLB's track record for fixing problems by making them worse is unmatched.

MLB is proposing returning to a 154-game Regular Season and best-of-seven Division Series

ALT Schedule Changes Beginning in 2029, MLB proposes return to 154-game season and 7-game division series as part of salary cap and floor system. 154-Game Regular Season - Would return to 154-game schedule with a standard off day every week. Which Enables Best-Of-7 Division Series - Would expand the Division Series from best-of-five to best-of-seven, potentially adding up to 8 more Postseason games. More Prime Time Postseason Games - Would add additional off days in Postseason to reduce weekday daytime Postseason games, while giving pitchers extra rest.
