So This is not part of the Freya Air Defence ABM partnership. This system would be the second ABM system #Ukraine is developing. It said it can reach ballistic missile targets. But I don’t think they specify the aspect of ballistic targets in this article. The system was initially developed in 2016 as part of a service air ship based system it says. Both Freya and Koral are different systems, but with the pressure to develop and get more anti-ballistic missile systems online. I can see why they would be doing this. Time is of the essence.

Koral and Freya (Freyja) are both domestic Ukrainian air defense missile projects designed to counter aerial and ballistic threats, but they follow fundamentally different design, partnership, and guidance philosophies. While Koral is a purely Ukrainian-developed missile system utilizing an active radar homing seeker, Freya is a multinational pan-European initiative featuring a modular, open-architecture design explicitly intended as a low-cost alternative to the U.S. Patriot system.

Why are Israeli fighter jets flying over Iraq? This might be the answer.
On 10/12/26, Iranian officials warned of ground incursions into neighboring countries if the US resumes strikes.
On 10/20/26, Iran's ambassador claimed Iraq will expel the Kurdish groups. Baghdad refuses to comply.
In recent days, Iraq has closed off border crossings with Iran.
Last month, Kataib Hezbollah threatened to overthrow the Iraqi government.
Iranian tanks, artillery, and drones have all moved towards the Iraqi border.

MORE: ISW has observed evidence to assess that Russian forces suffered a net loss of 122 square kilometers between September 1, 2026, and October 16, 2026, and seized about 100 square kilometers since January 1, 2026.
Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment, October 30, 2026: Operation Vivaldi and other Ukrainian counteroffensive efforts in the Oleksandrivka and Kupyansk directions in 2026 have enabled Ukraine to contest the operational initiative across the frontline, virtually halting Russian advances. ISW has observed evidence to assess that Russian forces suffered a net loss of 122 square kilometers between September 1, 2026, and October 16, 2026, and seized about 100 square kilometers since January 1, 2026.
Biletskyi reported on October 19 that Operation Vivaldi degraded the Russian 144th Motorized Rifle Division (20th Combined Arms Army [CAA], Moscow Military District [MMD]), which was part of the Russian contingent previously operating from a bridgehead on the right (western) bank of the Zherebets River, to the extent that the division effectively ceased to exist as an organized military force.
Russian forces will have to reconstitute the 144th Motorized Rifle Division for any future offensive operations in the Lyman direction, which will impose further constraints on already costly Russian force generation. Russia has been facing increased combat losses since Summer 2026, with Russian forces losing over 40,000 killed and wounded in several months. Russia’s voluntary recruitment force generation system that relies on contract recruitment has become increasingly costly, and as average contract prices have significantly risen since 2022, to the point that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s is reportedly reluctantly considering ordering another unpopular involuntary reservist call-up. NEW | Ukrainian forces continue to face in-motion speed restrictions to SpaceX’s low-earth orbit satellite communication technology (Starlink and Starshield) that limit Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian piston engine-driven and jet-powered strike drones.
Ukrainian Presidential Advisor on Defense Technologies Serhiy “Flash” Beskrestnov stated on October 19 that the 160 kilometers per hour (around 100 miles per hour) in-motion speed restrictions to Ukraine’s satellite internet service as part of the Starshield package remain in place.
Beskrestnov emphasized that the Starshield in-motion speed restrictions disrupt data transmission to Ukrainian drones used to intercept Russian piston engine-driven Geran drones since the helicopters fly faster than 160 kilometers per hour.
Ukrainian forces continue to publish further details about Ukraine’s Operation Vivaldi – a counteroffensive operation that fundamentally disrupted the Russian campaign for Donetsk Oblast by defeating the northern pincer that the Russian military intended to use to encircle the Fortress Belt from the north.
Senior Kremlin officials reaffirmed Russian support for Iran and explicitly defined the United States as Russia’s long-term adversary, despite the recent unilateral US concession to Moscow – offering Russia a diesel export waiver.
US envoy Steve Witkoff will travel to St. Petersburg on Tuesday for talks with Russia’s leadership, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said.
Witkoff will present proposals discussed during the Oslo meeting. Ukraine’s security, postwar prosperity, territorial issues and sanctions were on the agenda of the Ukrainian-US talks, Støre said.
UK to deploy Typhoon fighter jets to Saudi Arabia to defend against Houthi attacks
London will also send military advisers and an Atlas A400M transport aircraft. They will help protect cities and critical infrastructure from missile and drone attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
UK Defence Secretary Wes Streeting called the attacks on Saudi Arabia unacceptable. However, British fighter jets will carry out defensive missions only and will not strike Houthi targets.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) CSG is going to stick around 7th fleet for a short bit to participate in exercise KEEN SWORD that runs through the end of the month.
Japan to CENTCOM is ~2 weeks transit time.
With a flight deck packed with carrier-based aircraft, including stealthy fifth-generation F-35Cs, the USS Theodore Roosevelt pulled into Yokosuka, Japan, on Friday. Roosevelt is the first non-resident U.S. carrier to visit the key naval port, strategically located on the east side of Japan, in more than four years. Yokosuka is home to thee USS George Washington and America’s only forward-based Carrier Strike Group (CSG).
Roosevelt, which serves as the flagship of CSG 9, escorted by guided-missile cruiser USS Chosin and destroyer USS Decatur, completed the journey from San Diego in 19 days − maneuvering around a typhoon in the Western Pacific − and will participate in the upcoming combined exercise Keen Sword 27.
Meanwhile, the USS George H.W. Bush departed Thailand after a five-day port call and returned to the Middle East, and the USS Abraham Lincoln arrived home after a nearly eleven-month combat deployment.
