Another trafficking run shut down through coordinated regional action. 🚨
A U.S. Government Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) detected a go-fast vessel and notified Costa Rica, @seguridadcrc, and regional partners. A Costa Rican interceptor was vectored toward the contact, and the MPA handed off tracking to a CBP, @CBP, aircraft before returning to base. The CBP aircraft later handed the contact off to a follow on U.S. Government MPA. Additional partner nation maritime and interceptor assets later reacquired the vessel and gained positive control.

A @USCG Cutter Isaac Mayo’s crew repatriated 6 people to Cuba, Tuesday, following a maritime migrant interdiction and a separate rescue of 4 people aboard a disabled Cuban fishing vessel in the Florida Straits.

🚨A Cuban national is fortunate to be alive after being found alone on a small raft approximately 16 miles east of Key Biscayne, Florida, on October 12.
A good Samaritan reported the sighting over VHF Channel 16, our Miami and Fort Lauderdale marine units and the U.S. Coast Guard responded and located the individual and provided emergency assistance. He was evaluated by EMS, medically cleared by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and transferred to the USCG Cutter Melvin Bell for further processing.
This incident underscores the extreme danger of attempting illegal maritime migration. The open water is unforgiving, and these journeys can quickly become fatal.
