Somehow we've reached a point in education where: - teaching kids explicitly is controversial - academic rigour is treated as a threat to student wellbeing - memorizing math facts is discouraged or considered unnecessary - practice is dismissed as "drill and kill" Low expectations are not kindness, and nothing hurts someone's confidence more than falling further behind every year.

Naguib Mahfouz won the Nobel in Literature in 1988. Ahmed Zewail won the Nobel in Chemistry in 1999, after winning the Wolf Prize. Omar Yaghi won the Nobel in Chemistry in 2025. Algebra is an Arabic word. So is algorithm. The math on this claim doesn't work.

"The six step framework for selling frameworks." Linkedin to a T. Crawling woth blaggers, boasters and parasites.
Based on the dross that chokes my LinkedIn feed, I have spotted a gap in the market.

😬😬😬 Education not bringing its best.
Incredible that a reputable journal like the Review of Educational Research asked - seriously - if I would review a meta-analysis of major learning-style instruments. It's like the JAMA asking for a review of different aura reading methods! Shame on you RER!

SOLT research is really "salting the earth" of the higher education Carthage, hey. Nothing good grows from colleges and departments where people pass off pedagogical thought bubbles as disciplinary research

"Interbrigadisten vor Teruel" (International Brigades at Teruel) by Gerhard Kurt Müller  1966-67. The town and looming sky behind reminds me of El Greco's view of Toledo, as do the elongated characters. Criticised at the time in the GDR for unheroic portrayal of fighters. The feel of cold is patent. There were some 30,000 casualties from frostbite in this key battle of the Spanish Civil War. Dresden, New Masters Gallery.

Lmao @ detector enthusiasts. Get a new job suckers.
Cambiar una coma por un punto ha hecho que el detector pasase de un 36% de IA a un 100% humano. Los detectores son una puta mierda. Así de claro. Una coma. He cambiado una coma de mi propio escrito.

I reminded my History students that at about their age another historian called E. P. Thompson was serving as a tank commander in North Africa and Italy during World War II. So could they please not call their sit-down blue book exam “traumatic”. They took it in a good spirit.

Position statement. If Zionism were simply about establishing the right of Jews to live safely wherever they are, including in their ancestral homeland, I would be a Zionist. But this isn't what Zionism is about. It is, and always has been, about creating a Jewish-majority state in a land where the majority of people are not Jewish. This necessarily means either removing most non-Jews or denying them citizenship. Zionists have done, and are still doing, both. I believe in the right of ALL people to live safely wherever they are. I oppose every means used to drive people out of their homes and lands: mass murder, ethnic cleansing, systematic violence, denial of citizenship, violation of basic human rights. Zionism uses all these means to create and maintain its Jewish state. Therefore I am an anti-Zionist.

Very silly, very untrue things that phds tell themselves. Spectacularly untrue.
If you properly did your PhD you’re prepared for any job, because you learned how to learn and research on your own

In fact, this is "senior management" thinking. No need to know anything at all, ever. A generic set of "skills" is endlessly deployable, regardless of situation of circumstance. It explains a lot about the operation of universities, and why they're doing so terribly atm.

We were told in our teacher education courses not to grade with red ink because its association with being wrong could cause the students to feel stigmatized. When I say there is no idea so stupid that someone with a PhD in education won’t advocate for it, I mean it.
I remember in teacher training reading a moronic paper that ended with teachers lining up to a garbage can to theatrically throw away the red pens they used to correct student writing. Unhelpful.

The Turkish #papermill #fraud Fatih Sen just got another retraction!👇This idiot hasn't published a single legit paper. It's all fake! He made an entire career on fake science/publications. @universitemdpu however still supports their super star! doi.org/10.1016/j.ijhydene.2…
Hard to keep track with frauds like Fatih Sen! 2 extra retractions are in👇 Fatih Sen is one of the biggest Turkish frauds but @universitemdpu fully support #fraud! Sen only published fake #papermill stuff. He is a total fraud.

Ouch. But also yes, this is absolutely true. Zero concern for total failure of assessment is just one indicator.

The answer is that the declines in learning as measured by testing are irrelevant. What matters to progressives is having an “authentic learning experience” not if it aids some future goal. The progressives are not goal-directed, they’re aimless, drifting deadbeats.

Reading is one of the best things you can do and costs like $20 for six hours, tops. In many cases it's free. The people who make it possible live in penury and the whole modern economy is organized against it.
