Most people in the public eye become footnotes of history. A handful make history. Long after we're all gone, Canadian students will be learning about Manitoba Premier @WabKinew
Abolish the Indian Act. We have nothing to lose but our chains. We will, of course, need new legislation that is an interface between the Federal government and First Nations. And this MUST be created alongside Chiefs and First Nation governments every step of the way. But it is time to move past the era of this outdated, racist, and patriarchal legislation. I support Prime Minister Carney’s work to position Canada as a global leader in human rights and democracy. The Indian Act is inconsistent with achieving that vision. Our laws at home should reflect the values we champion around the world. It’s time for a relationship with First Nations people that reflects who we are as Canadians today, recognizes nationhood, and lives up to the true nature of reconciliation.

“I was released today after about four and a half months of detention.” Dr. Mazen al-Rantisi, a 71-year-old physician from Ramallah known across the West Bank as “the doctor of the poor,” speaks with a fresh wound on his face, inflicted half an hour before his release on October 25, 2026. He says a jailer dragged him to the release room handcuffed behind his back, shackled at the legs and blindfolded, then shoved and kicked him to the ground. Israeli occupation forces seized al-Rantisi from his home in the al-Tireh neighbourhood of Ramallah in June without announcing any reason, and his daughter says he lost around 25 kilograms in their prisons. He describes Nafha prison as overrun with scabies, affecting nearly 80 percent of the Palestinian hostages held there, with almost no medicine given. When prisoners beg the passing nurse for treatment, he says, they are cursed at, mocked and ridiculed, and he was taunted for taking the chronic medication a court had ordered he receive. He calls on international human rights organisations to intervene, saying Palestinian hostages are beaten and punished at the whim of their jailers with no oversight or accountability. @Aljazeeraquds

Alberta’s Minister of Health/Hospitals wants Albertans to know that the government is building everything they can to manage the incoming flu season… Except mention vaccines. In fact, the last time she tweeted about vaccines? Last year. But it was measles, not the flu.

Again, and SO MUCH, this. Truth first. Then change. Then maybe reconciliation, if Canada stands up and deserves it.

Smith is still a liar and a sociopath. She should stop all the destruction of public healthcare and work with doctors to address the crisis she created.

Last year, Alberta had its deadliest respiratory virus season. We also had the lowest vaccination coverage. And the worst health system pressures outside COVID-19. That is your government's public health record. Barriers to vaccination led to the worst flu season. Better rollout, no barriers. The fact that your statement doesn’t mention vaccines or vaccination as part of your tools is worrisome.
Respiratory virus season means busier hospitals, and we want to make sure they’re ready. Saturday, I joined Premier Danielle Smith, Minister Nathan Neudorf and Acute Care Alberta CEO Dr. Sayeh Zielke to share what we’re doing to prepare. Alberta now has a record high of more than 9,000 acute care spaces across the province, and we’re building on that capacity to help hospitals handle the extra demand. Along with preparing additional hospital spaces, our capacity task force is looking for ways to expand even further. We’re also helping patients move into care settings that better meet their needs and bringing physicians into emergency department waiting areas so patients can be assessed and treated sooner. These steps will help ease pressure on our hospitals, give health care teams the support they need and make sure Albertans can get the care they need, when they need it.

In 1835, a British colonial administrator named Thomas Macaulay wrote a document known as the Minute on Indian Education. He did not hide what he was doing. He wrote, in plain language, that the goal was to create "a class of persons Indian in blood and colour, but English in tastes, in opinions, in morals and in intellect." Not educated Indians. Not Indians with expanded access to knowledge. Indians who had been replaced, from the inside, with something more governable. He put it in an official document. He signed it. It became policy. And yet somehow, when people describe the colonial education project as a deliberate instrument of cultural erasure, they are accused of being dramatic. The man wrote it down. The drama is his, not ours.

We desperately need beds in AB. We don't need our premier trying to fool us that we have them. If we could even get back to the bed number we had in 2000 it would be a massive improvement. GoA: set a goal and then get it done!
Hey Alberta: is this incompetence or a full on intentional lie? 9003 Acute Care Spaces is NOWHERE near a record number for our prov In the late 1980s we had 17,790 acute care spaces in hospitals (~12,000 acute care beds, +LTC beds) 1988: 7.4 beds/1000 2026: 1.5 beds/1000 1/2

There is a reason the Cleopatra argument is so persistent. It is the only one available. Think about what it requires you to believe to maintain the position that ancient Egypt was not African: You have to believe that a civilization located on the African continent, surrounded by African populations, drawing on the Nile Valley civilizational complex that stretches deep into the African interior, sharing linguistic roots with other African language families, trading and intermarrying with Nubian kingdoms to the south for thousands of years... Was somehow not African. Was a separate category. A Mediterranean anomaly. An island of non-Africa on the African continent. That belief requires so much architectural maintenance. So many careful exclusions. So many reclassifications. So much sustained institutional effort. The Cleopatra argument is what you reach for when all of that architecture is under pressure and you need something that sounds like a fact. It is one true fact deployed in the service of a framework that cannot survive honest examination.
