Over the past three months, attacks on refrigeration controllers connected to the internet have moved from a theoretical risk to real damage:
• August 2026, United States: Refrigeration failed at more than six US military commissaries, including Fort Irwin (CA), Holloman AFB (NM), Naval Station Newport (RI), Little Rock AFB (AR), F.E. Warren AFB (WY), Robins AFB (GA) and Fort Huachuca (AZ). The Pentagon is now investigating whether this was a cyberattack.
• 11–12 October 2026, France: In one night, attackers forced defrost cycles at up to ~700 supermarkets, including Intermarché, Coopérative U, Carrefour, Monoprix and E.Leclerc. Temperatures reached 50°C, fresh and frozen stock had to be thrown away, and some stores had fires. Danfoss, Copeland and Dixell controllers were affected, and similar exposure was reported in Spain, Portugal, Poland, Germany and Belgium.
• 2 November 2026, Belgium, Luxembourg and Sweden: A new overnight wave hit stores including Delhaize and ICA, again switching units into defrost and sending temperatures sharply up.
The common thread is old, internet-facing controllers with weak passwords and outdated firmware.

The #FBI #SanFrancisco Field Office, in coordination with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California, has arrested a former employee of a San Francisco super‑intelligence company for allegedly installing a covert audio recording device inside a secure executive conference room. The device was positioned to capture sensitive, nonpublic company communications.
SAC Scott Schelble: “Any attempt to illicitly obtain protected information from U.S. super‑intelligence and technology companies threatens both American innovation and the national security interests those advancements support.
