Last night was the Conservatives’ best in a long time: four wins from five contests, three of them gains. That takes them to 29 wins since May’s local elections, more than any other party (Reform 26, Labour 26, Lib Dems 24).

We are proud to have added our voice to the widespread calls to protect and preserve the world leading scientific research that is undertaken at Jodrell Bank and its associated infrastructure, including here in Cheshire West & Chester at Darnhall. Our motion was strongly backed.

Local Conservatives just voted to defend democracy in the face of a concerted attack by the Labour Government to reduce the role of councillors in the scrutiny process around planning applications at a time when targets are increasing and there’s concerted pressure to build.

To all those worried about the state of conservative politics, Kemi Badenoch’s “Right Way” manifesto will be greatly reassuring. Here is a genuine conservative who believes in freedom, in tradition, and above all, in her country and wants Britain to be its best self. I read this with growing confidence that a restored and renewed Conservative Party can make Britain the great country the wider world needs it to be
A government that doesn’t know what it believes will be buffeted by events and achieve little. Britain has been heading in the wrong direction because governments keep treating symptoms rather than causes - often trying to correct problems they themselves created. The Right Way is the Conservative answer to this challenge. Read it here 👇

The world is becoming more dangerous. We will always do what is necessary to keep our country safe. It’s the first and most important role of government.

This vision @KemiBadenoch is highly impressive. It is realistic & radical but also optimistic, decent, refreshing & dramatic. It is the first time in 25years or more that a major party leader has spoken honestly & sensibly about what has gone wrong, challenged all sorts of mistakes & orthodoxies perpetrated by both parties for decades, and suggested how to govern & reform this country in this turbulent new era. Its no surprise that this was in part inspired by chats w the late brilliant Sir Alex Younger. No wonder Kemi is so popular as a leader and this confirms why…

Today I’m launching my plan to revive our towns, nurture our villages, and create communities. The current system isn’t working for anyone. I want more people to achieve the dream of their own home, and for the public to have much more confidence in the system. Read my plan 👉 ben4mayor.com/housing_manife…

It’s reheated old Labour socialism with Burnham. No plan to cut taxes. No plan to cut welfare. No plan to fund defence. The Labour faithful may have been cheering. The markets were watching, and they know Labour won’t confront the grim reality of Britain’s economic peril.

Andy Burnham wants to take Britain back to the 1970s, a time of more government control, more trade union control and no economic growth. There is a reason our country took a different course after that decade. Nothing Burnham announced today will do anything to fix Britain’s long-term problems. He had no plan to fix our stagnant economy. No plan to fund defence. No plan to sort out the spiralling welfare bill, beyond more government schemes. His proposal to change the triple lock is already falling apart under scrutiny, and it won’t generate enough savings to fund a nationalised care system for another two decades, which means more tax rises are inevitable. Britain does not need to recreate the politics of the 1970s. It needs a government prepared to take the difficult decisions, back those who work and build businesses, and look confidently to the future.

Reform are about to learn the lesson of the law of diminishing returns. In 2020, Michael Bloomberg spent $1 billion employing 2,400 staff and saturating coverage on his Presidential campaign. It came to nothing. Money is an accelerant, not a cure. If the fundamentals are good, it improves things. If they’re bad, things will get a whole lot worse. You can buy staff and advertising, but you can’t buy judgement or integrity. Sometimes a bigger cheque just means you make more of the same mistakes. The Conservatives are up for the fight. We are raising millions, attracting new donors and winning back old ones because people can see what is coming. Britain does not need another protest party. It needs common sense, a serious plan and a party capable of bringing the country together. That is who we are. And it is what Reform will never be.

Experience counts. So does consistency. Our new Shadow Chancellor, @griffitha, has both. He has more business experience than Labour’s entire front bench. And he’s been calling Labour out for decades. Here he is taking Tony Blair to task almost 30 years ago 👇
