My @IMechE lecture about Beatrice Shilling and her work which began in the 1930`s on the "R.A.E. Carburettor", a pressure carburettor which was totally immune from cut out under negative-g and icing, is now online. Had this carburettor been supported and adopted earlier, she would never have been even asked to design "Miss Shillings Orifice", the restrictor she came up with in 1940 to help solve the worst of the problem with the SU float carburettors then fitted to all Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. She had the last laugh, but many R.A.F pilots certainly died because the R.A.E. Carburettor was ignored for a long time.
