The kids are alright…
I believe this will be considered one of the most important videos in US history from this time.

Nine years ago, our son got featured on the @NJDevils Instagram as he took the ice for #MitesOnIce at @PruCenter - blew our minds! #LetsGoDevils #GiveEmHelle

Hurricane Nolo is moving toward Hawaiʻi, and Team Rubicon has activated to respond. For many residents this is the third storm of the season. Greyshirt volunteers deployed to Hawaiʻi after Hurricanes Lala and Lowell, and families there are still clearing debris and repairing homes. Being asked to get ready for another one before the last one is finished is exhausting. Equipment from those operations is already pre-staged on the island. Greyshirts are in contact with state and local partners to identify where help is needed as impacts become clear. We were here before. We are here now. Three major storms. Three regions. One weekend. Right now, Team Rubicon Greyshirts are already moving. ▪️ Hawaiʻi: Bracing for Hurricane Nolo while still recovering from recent severe weather. Greyshirts are already on the ground, with more en route. ▪️ The Northeast: Families are prepping for an unusual September nor'easter. Our crews are staging now, ahead of the impact. ▪️ California: Monitoring Hurricane Polo as it tracks toward landfall. This is what a relentless Super El Niño system looks like. Back-to-back storms, with little time to reset. The storms are relentless. So are we. Not the electric boat and sharks again… 🤦‍♂️
Trump: I'm in an electric boat and I see it going down and the water's pouring in, so I know I'm going to be electrocuted, but 5 yards away there are sharks. Do I take the electrocution or do I go swimming with the sharks, and you know what my answer was? I'll take the electrocution,

We live in the dumbest of times.
TRUMP EXPLAINS TRADE DEFICITS: “If we buy $2 billion worth of bananas from Brazil, we’re actually losing $2 billion. So if we stop eating bananas, we actually save $2 billion.”

"My father Michael Massaroli...you do my dad's legacy and the legacy of all these victims no honor by using this tragedy to spread hate. We have seen a medley of people come up today, of all races, all religions, all creeds and this tragedy is just that, it's a tragedy. I've had to grow up and spend the past 25 years seeing people use it to hate on our Muslim brothers and sisters, to hate on people who don't look like them. That's wrong. That does no honor to the victims here...please stop." Full video here: youtube.com/live/Wkl0vAMmU0I…

This seems bad…. 😬
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

NOAA launches the weather balloons, floats the ocean buoys, flies the satellites, and staffs the forecasters that tell us when storms are coming. That data supports about two-thirds of the economy, roughly $1.3 trillion a year, and it paid us back $73 for every dollar we spent on it. DOGE took a chainsaw to it anyway. They cut 2,500 people. They pushed out 27,000 years of experience in just a few months. Now a charter fishing captain in Homer, Alaska has spent half a season with no idea what the wind is doing in waters he fishes every day. Kansas got hit by two tornadoes nobody saw coming. Forecasters missed how strong a typhoon was as it headed for Alaska. Farmers, insurers, airlines, and city engineers are all working with worse information than they had two years ago. And now the Trump administration plan is to cut even deeper. They want to pull another $1.6 billion out of NOAA next year. They want to hand the rest to private companies, so your town ends up paying a business for weather data your taxes already paid for, with no promise it will even be right. Wrecking a 73-to-1 investment and sending the bill to fishermen, farmers, and families. Just crazy. forbes.com/sites/alanohnsman…

This…. All of this…
U.S. acceptance of Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz is an extraordinary outcome only made conceivable by an administration that squandered legitimacy, alienated allies, attempted regime change in a war it had not adequately prepared for and that is being forced to accept a catastrophic outcome without viable alternatives. Counterfactuals are impossible to prove but in other circumstances Iran's closure of Strait by brazenly attacking maritime traffic and neighbors' civilian infrastructure would likely have justified and led to a united, global response--like the U.S.-led naval escort mission during the Iran-Iraq war, the global coalition that reversed Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1991, the multinational naval force enforcing UN sanctions in the Gulf in the 1990s, or the UN Security Council sanctions on the Iranian nuclear program in the 2010s--that led to the JCPOA. Instead US and other countries are now being forced to accept an outcome that would have been unthinkable before the war but seems to have become unavoidable because of it.
