no you spent a year telling everyone they would be unemployed forever
silicon valley spent so much time trying to explain what ai will make possible for ppl. but it deeply underestimated how many ppl are primarily fearful of what ai will take away from them.

I’ve come to think @elonmusk ended up doing Dems and progressives a huge favor by turning this place into a fetid swamp of feral right wing freaks where the most prominent members of their coalition post like cartoon movie villains and think it makes them look cool.

We’ve had a staggering 42,000 suggestions of small fixes to improve the UK submitted to Small-Ideas.org so far. You’ve ‘til 5pm Thur. 12 Nov to add yours! Here’s a few of them… - Tell people what their blood group is when they first get a blood test. It will encourage those in rare groups to become blood donors. - Mandatory ‘AI edited’ label for property photos via estate agency sites - ‘No wrong door’ rule for reporting issues to councils / public bodies. They must send to right place to stop people being passed from council to contractor to agency. - Add cycle racks to the back of buses. - Make grocery manufacturers label when pack sizes change. To tackle shrinkflation. - Allow drivers to turn left on a red light. All ideas submitted to Small-Ideas.org by 12 Nov will be assessed on the key criteria, then the best selected by a cross-party panel to turn into a manifesto More info on the Small Ideas Initiative - a charitable project, on the website

59 days until California companies have to put it in writing. Starting Jan 1, any WARN notice where AI took the jobs has to open with "This notice is for a technology displacement," … then list the jobs, the functions and the AI involved. So I'll answer my own question…. yes, it matters. Watch how many layoffs suddenly have nothing to do with AI.
California requiring notices for AI- related layoffs? If the bill is signed by Newsom, companies must disclose in WARN notices if jobs are being automated. Does it matter at this point?

Been saying this since 2022, AI will regurgitate copyrighted content without you even knowing it or asking for it, and frankly if that happens to you, you deserve what comes after. AI infringes by default, it's pulling from somewhere, and it's impossible to track.
Cartoon Saloon eliminó por copyright el corto de un creador IA que utilizó su diseño de personaje sin autorización. El autor se enojó, asegurando que ni siquiera conocía de sus películas.

There is a reason that tax is done once a year. Over a year, you can provide for it. It's difficult, and sometimes you have to make hard decisions. But making freelancers pay tax monthly when they have zero income that month is insane!

has anyone considered, much like in other parts of life, that women and girls only apply for things when they meet or exceed the minimum criteria? and men are more likely to just apply. this is a well known phenomenon in jobs, likely it's the same for university.
17,000 men apply to MIT 8900 women apply to MIT 600 men were accepted 612 women were accepted If we assume male and female applicants to MIT are roughly the same, the probability this happens by chance, let alone every year for a while The probability of a sex blind admission process creating this result is 1 in 4 × 10³¹

Companies blamed AI for 120,136 US job cuts this year. In September? 3,961. Year to date, AI is still the #1 reason companies give, at about 21% of all announced cuts. In September it fell to fifth, at about 9%. ‘Efficiency’ is the new playbook word! And don’t forget that employers announced plans to hire 90,787 people in Sept- the weakest September since 2011. And you know that sucker will be revised too. I've been tracking this for years. My take: companies didn't need AI to cut. AI was just a scapegoat. Now? They are just slowing up hiring. Big time.

The final goal of AI companies is to end personal computing which in simple terms means to remove all access to digital devices from genral public. You can already see how prices of laptops, phones and PCs are being artificially inflated so no one can afford them anymore. This is the largest endeavour to move digital assets from people to the technocrats. They recognise the monetary value which internet affords to common people and want to take it away. After they've taken away all your phones & PCs they will sell you a rectangle box which would run on a cloud and would require a constant subscription, this is their long game.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead. "From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."
