The most "DC" thing ever is to reflexively twist the Signal chat story into a scandal over "classified information" and "OPSEC," rather than a scandal over a military operation that was launched on highly dubious pretenses by people such as Hegseth, who is clearly frothing for a war to command, and communicates his desires in the most simple-minded cliches.
Nobody ever applies consistent principles to the retention or transmission of "classified information," and pretending to care about the sacrosanct nature of such information above all else is just standard DC pablum.

Bureaucracy operating free of “political control” is the definition of “arbitrary and capricious” power. “Political control” is a synonym of “public accountability,” but Summers thinks it’s “corrosive to democracy.” Democracy is when the government does what they want, while its opposite is when the people try to interfere. They really believe this.
Very similar to how Bolsheviks would called Party intellectuals, lawyers, & bureaucrats members of the proletariat, while working trade unionists could be liquidated as bourgeois enemies of the people. All the positive words they use - democracy, proletariat, the people, etc - just mean “one of Us,” while their curses - authoritarian, bourgeois, demagogue - mean “one of Them.”
