He raised Meghan, by her own old accounts, as the devoted dad who worked double shifts on a TV set to put her through private school and Northwestern. He walked her to the door of adulthood. He has not spoken to her since the week of her wedding in 2018. He has never met Archie, who is seven. He has never met Lilibet, who is five. He has never met Harry. He had a stroke in 2022. He now lives in the Philippines, which is a long way from Montecito and a longer way from the Cotswolds. Yes, he staged those photos before the wedding. Yes, he's talked to the papers since, because talking to the papers is the only way a man gets a message to a daughter who has blocked every other door. Set that against the ledger on the other side: a book, a Netflix series, an Oprah special, a podcast, a MasterClass. If talking to the press is the unforgivable sin, there's a family in the Cotswolds that should be very quiet about it. So here's the question nobody in that house wants asked. Where is Harry's reconciliation campaign for the Markles? Where's the GQ interview about healing with the father-in-law? Where's the 'scars stick around forever' for the half-sister, the half-brother, the nephews, the grandfather who writes letters that go unanswered? There isn't one. There never has been. The reconciliation energy flows in exactly one direction: towards the family with the castle, the titles, the police protection and the 'Prince' in front of the children's names. The family with a bungalow in the Philippines gets nothing. Not a call. Not a photo of the kids. Not even the courtesy of a 'no.' You can draw your own conclusion about why. I'll just note that it's a strange kind of peacemaker who only makes peace uphill. If Harry means a word of what he told GQ, the easiest reconciliation in the world is a 30-second phone call to an old man in Asia. It costs nothing. It asks nothing of the King. It would mean everything to the only grandfather those children have never met. The fact that it hasn't happened in eight years tells you what the rest of the tour is really for.
