I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve said it but 8 was the number. Spots (not auto-bids, spots) for 5 power conference champions, a G5, and Notre Dame with one to spare as the situations warranted. No byes, 6 games played at the traditional NY6 spots leading up to a national championship game. There’s yet to be a 9th ranked team that’s both deserving and capable of winning a championship, let alone a 12th, let alone a 24th.
