🇿🇼Congratulations to the Government of Zimbabwe. A major milestone for pandemic preparedness and health security.
The Pandemic Fund’s grant of over US$14 million has helped mobilize US$49 million in partner co-financing and nearly US$92 million in government co-investment.
Congratulations to the Government of Zimbabwe, the @AfDB_Group, @FAO, @UNICEF and all partners on this achievement.
This is the power of partnership—turning national leadership and strategic investment into stronger, more resilient health systems that can prevent, detect and respond to health threats, protecting lives in Zimbabwe and beyond.

Replying to @MoHCCZim
@MoHCCZim Minister Hon. Dr. Douglas Mombeshora, today officially launched two key Pandemic Fund grants which, combined with partner support and national co-funding, unlock US$157.62 million to strengthen the nation’s epidemic prevention, detection and response capabilities.
The overall funding package includes US$16.82 million in direct Pandemic Fund support, comprising a US$14.33 million single-country grant for Zimbabwe and a US$2.49 million share of a multi-country grant supporting seven other nations in the Southern Region. Crucially, the single-country grant has unlocked an additional US$49.00 million in co-financing from development partners, alongside US$91.80 million in domestic resources committed by the Government.
In his keynote address, Dr. Mombeshora emphasized that health security is essential to sustained economic growth, stressing that, because disease outbreaks disrupt livelihoods, trade, education and essential public services, health preparedness must be treated as a crucial national development imperative. #HealthForAll

What do you do after winning the @NobelPrize? If you're Columbia Professor Michael Woodford, newly named a Nobel laureate in Economic Sciences, you head to Uris Hall and give your students an exam. Woodford entered the classroom to cheers and applause from the students in his course “Cognitive Mechanisms and Economic Behavior.”
“It's just a staggering piece of news,” Woodford said of receiving the honor. He is the 16th Columbian to receive this prize in economics, and the University's 89th Nobel laureate.

2026 economic sciences laureate Robert E. Hall’s hypothesis was that changes in consumption could not be predicted because they depend on new – and thus unpredictable – information.
Hall presented his results in an article in 1978, which was something of a eureka moment for research. His work became key to the development of modern research on consumption.
