Hong Sangsoo's 'The Day She Returns' will begin a theatrical run on December 18 at @Metrograph.
Hong Sangsoo's 34th feature 'The Day She Returns' is one of the director's most elemental and revelatory gems.

Hong Sang-soo’s 34th feature THE DAY SHE RETURNS continues a robust period of autofiction for the filmmaker about aging artists more concerned with being true to themselves than being liked.

"This media [landscape] doesn’t leave a lot of space for individuals to exist within their relationship *to* the media. We are taken by both hands and run through this rollercoaster." —Éric Baudelaire

Dennis Lim on Hong Sangsoo and his films in this year's NYFF: "I am so convinced that it is one film. It is one project, and every film just adds to this massive, ongoing film in progress. I actually think the two from this year are among two of my favorite recent Hongs. Fireflies is doing a second edition of the book I wrote on Hong Sangsoo’s cinema ['Tale of Cinema']. They asked if I wanted to write a little extra, an introduction, and I decided, in the end, to write an afterword because it made more sense. When I had written that book—which was part of a series of monographs about specific films—I had set myself this private challenge that I would write about every Hong film that he had made up until that point, just to prove the point that you cannot consider any single Hong film in isolation. They all relate to one another. I think the two we’re showing are among my favorites."
