“I want to build a football team where everybody is taught that if we work together, we can be better than everybody else.” President @BillClinton shared these words about the power of working together at the @LRTouchdownClub where he joined Jerry Jones earlier this week as Jones announced a $10 million gift from his family to support the modernization and renovation of the Clinton Presidential Center. That spirit of working together will help carry the Center’s mission of education, public service, and bringing people together into the future.

Václav Havel believed that truth was better than fear, freedom was worth fighting for, and Europe’s future belonged to everyone. He devoted his life to those convictions and helped change the course of history. On what would have been his 90th birthday, I’m remembering my friend with gratitude for his courage, his love of our common humanity, and the work we did together to bring the Czech Republic into NATO and build a Europe no longer divided. We also shared a love of music. So today, I’m playing a few notes in his honor. Happy birthday, my friend. The world could use more of your spirit.

35 years ago, on October 3, 1991, Arkansas Governor Bill Clinton launched a historic campaign for president at the Old Statehouse in Little Rock. Guided by his vision of “Putting People First,” the successful Clinton-Gore campaign went on to shape a generation of American politics and usher in a period of peace, prosperity, and progress for the American people and around the world.

Once a Staffer: @shawnlandres | Known as the original volunteer, Shawn's campaign song suggestion, "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac, catapulted a simple idea into the soundtrack of President Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign.

"Sometimes slogans work because they are true, and in its way, the song helped catalyze policymaking that has had lasting impact." Thirty-five years after @shawnlandres suggested Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop" as a campaign song to then-Governor Bill Clinton, he writes that the song still offers hope for tomorrow. 30 years ago today, I signed the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. In the three decades since, the world has seen only 10 nuclear tests, compared with more than 2,000 in the five decades before. As AI gives us new capabilities we could only have imagined then, we should remember something we learned in the nuclear age: even when countries disagree, we can still work together to reduce the risks we all face. cfr.org/articles/bill-clinto…

Without ever holding elected office, Eleanor Roosevelt redefined the role of first lady from gracious helpmate to public advocate, spending half of each year crossing the country to see the Depression firsthand and bringing what she learned back to the White House. In a new essay, Hillary Rodham Clinton reflects on Roosevelt—one of her heroes—and the discipline of showing up for the hardest problems confronting the nation and the world.
