You are responsible for your effort. You are responsible for your attitude. You are responsible for your mindset. You are responsible for your unselfishness. You are responsible for what kind of teammate you are. Own what you can own. ~ via @DrewMaddux

Pay your dues. You don’t get to achieve mastery without embracing the boredom of consistency. You don’t get to have success without experiencing failure. You don’t get to always feel good. You signed up for the hard road the moment you committed to going after your dreams.

💯
Just because the coach doesn’t play your child doesn’t mean they dislike them. A coach can care deeply about your child, both as a player and person, without agreeing with your assessment of their talent. Good morning.

Great answer from Joe Mazzulla on the purpose of rim pressure and the different ways to create it: “It can be done in different ways…The most obvious one is driving into the paint, make a layup…Last game, we put a ton of pressure on the rim on our off-ball of curling to the rim. “A curl to the rim on a guy who draws a 2-on-1 somewhere else on the floor is rim pressure. So, you can get it through drives, you can get it through cuts, you can get it through screening and rolling. “…You put pressure on the rim to create 2-on-1s and create easy baskets. You have to be able to see that pressure on the rim doesn’t always lead to a layup. It may lead to a 3, it may lead to a kick-out.”

I love how college has opened the door for real scrimmages/exhibitions in October. High School should be the same way without these arbitrary dates and coaching regulations. More realistic game situations, playing with refs, more time to correct and evaluate your own teams

There was a particular elem/ms team that was running through teams years ago in my city. Because they practiced pressing non stop and had a few athletes. Fast forward years later. 1 out of those 10ish kids are making an impacting on the varsity level. I thought about that this morning because so many parents got the wrong people coaching/developing their kids and don’t realize it until it’s too late.

Mike Babcock on enjoying his return to coaching and why he decided to take the job in Edmonton: “Well, I'll tell you, I'm having a lot of fun because we got really good people. My coaches are real good. The management's been unreal. The owner's been unreal, and our guys are trying hard, and so that's been fun for me. My retirement was spectacular. And I got this deer walking around in Ohio every morning, kind of sticks his tongue out as he comes by my camera. He's a giant, so you wonder what you're doing. But it's been fun.” Reporter: “You don't need it, so why do you do it?” Babcock: “Because they asked me. So if they hadn't asked me, I'd have never done it. When those kids asked me, they want to win, and I think they should, so I'm going to try to help.” #LetsGoOilers

My message: Let kids grow. Just focus on the work. Whatever they are supposed to do they’ll do if the work is kept as the main thing. People judge 4th, 5th and 6th graders too harshly. When the questions should be: - Are they committed to the sport and love it? - Do they have objective and locked in parents? - Can they do the same ish for years? If the answer is yes to all 3 of those they will be fine! Everybody has a genetic ceiling but you will be rock solid if those are YESSES!

I'll probably catch some heat for this, but here goes. I'm a HUGE believer in multi-sport athletes. I grew up playing multiple sports. Loved basketball. Loved competing. And I firmly believe those experiences helped me become a better baseball player. Different movements. Different challenges. Different ways to compete. I've spent decades around this game, and I'll tell you this: being a better overall athlete sure as hell isn't going to hurt your chances of becoming a better baseball player. Does that mean every kid needs to play three sports? Nope. Does that mean specializing is wrong? Absolutely not. But I do think we've gotten a little too comfortable convincing young athletes they need to choose one sport before they've even figured out what they're capable of. Let kids compete. Let them develop. Let them figure it out. There's more than one road to becoming a great ballplayer. 👊

Connor. McDavid. Can't. Stop. Scoring. After a five-point night, he has 31 points in 10 games. The fourth player in NHL HISTORY with 30 points in a player's first 10 games 🔥

Bill Clinton on Mark Carney: I'm tired of treating our allies like they're dirt. The prime minister of Canada has been a friend of mine for a long time. We got to know each other having virtually nothing to do with politics. He's about the most well-qualified leader in the world. He's been head of the banks of both the UK and Canada. And we have the gall to suggest that they should become the 51st state.

Signs of a great youth coach: The kids drive and kick, understand shot selection and play to their strengths. They love playing and celebrate each other’s success. They want to win and care more about the team than their own stats.

Angel Reese just put up 30 and 16 on 10-16 shooting in a Finals road win, became the youngest player in WNBA history to do it, and joined only Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones with a 30-15 Finals game. She’s the Defensive Player of the Year leading the Dream to their first-ever Finals victory. The same people who called her inefficient, soft, or “not a winner” are still typing. Keep watching. She’s not going anywhere.
