With the Quenton Nelson and DeForest Buckner trades, the Colts have cleared over $17.7 million in cash and salary cap space while adding two picks in 2027 (3rd and 4th rounders) and one in 2028 (5th). A significant day in what will be a major rebuild under a new GM in 2027.
Reunion! The Colts are trading three-time Pro Bowl DL DeForest Buckner to the 49ers for a 2027 fourth-round pick, sources tell @ringer @netflixsports.
Buckner came to San Francisco as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2016. A decade later, he’s back.

The 49ers will pay the $7.944 million left on DeForest Buckner’s contract this year. He’s set to be a free agent in March.

Money talks. The Jags were in the dumps for so long and constantly got top free agents.
Replying to @ColtscapKyle
Ummm…what free agents want to come to this mess? You’ll be seeing a team full of draft picks and 40 year old’s getting off their couch. They’ll be rolling over the maximum allowable cap space for at least 3 years.
Claim him back
Source: The #Raiders are releasing DT Jonah Laulu.
The former Oklahoma star was a healthy scratch on Sunday, but was very productive last season — recording 8 TFLs and 4.5 sacks. His 86 tackles were the most-ever by a Raiders’ DL over the first 2 years.
Another move Dodds should make that isn’t as high profile- no one of practice squad over 25 years old. Sorry Lou.
Load it with young players and hope you find a diamond in rough or two.
The idea that the Colts were getting a 3rd round comp pick is flawed. The roster needs drastic change and they’ll have over $100 million in cap space. You only get that pick if you don’t sign any free agents to cancel that out.

I believe the 3rd-round value is the highest trade value for offensive guards in the past 5 seasons. May need to double check my records.
Everyone wanted high picks but guards just aren’t valued high. Joe Thuney was dealt for a 4th and he routinely beats Q in All Pro voting.
I don’t think it’s as bad as many think it is.
100% the move if you’re selling like this is to make the new team eat full salary remaining and add to your 2027 cap space for the new GM

The Seahawks owe Quenton Nelson the remaining $9.777 million on his contract for 2026 and he's set to be a free agent in March.
Seattle has traded for players on expiring contracts before -- including Leonard Williams and Rasheed Shahid -- and gotten deals done later.
Trade! The Colts are sending eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick, sources tell @ringer @netflixsports.
If Colts didn’t restructure Nelson (hope they didn’t for that return) they’d save almost $9m in cap room this year to be rolled over.
Yuck. Seattle 3rd isn’t even a good 3rd. Barely better than better than comp pick value, just sooner.
Hopefully they didn’t eat cap also.
Ross Tucker is fantastic on TV. Love the criticism of the Colts refusing to change what they do on offense there.
