The issue with “AI bros” is that they lack vision. They lack intention. Everytime a new tool drops, everyone races to see what thing can rip off next. They taunt you as they recreate something that already exists except, faster, cheaper, and slightly worse. And when you say “this sucks”, they cannot understand that you don’t mean the quality. The quality is quite good. Sometimes incredible. The quality is not what sucks. What sucks is that they aren’t making something with intention. They have a general end goal in mind and type in the words to get there. But that’s now how good things get made. When you are making art, designing, making music, solving problems, beauty is a product of not knowing the end goal. The goal creates itself as you are creating.
Kurzgesagt has 25M subs. Millions of views on EVERY single video 🤯 nobody copies them for a reason: one video takes 1,200 hours and a studio of 50+ animators. we rebuilt their format with Opus 5.5 + @HyperFrames_ Studio. 100% code. a full 11-minute explainer. made in ~2 hours. under $50. want the template? we’re open-sourcing it for free 👇

"waaaah, my store doesn't make as much money as his store!!! I don't wanna be transparent to my customers!!! Why nobody want my machine produced slop!!! Waaaah!" Just do a favor to the world and jump into a wood chipper, Tim.
Tim Sweeney is criticizing Valve again over Steam’s requirement for developers to disclose their use of generative AI. The Epic Games CEO called the policy “abhorrent,” arguing that developers are being forced to make a “political statement” that could be used against them by a “hate mob.” Sweeney has been criticizing the policy since 2025, previously comparing the disclosure to a “Scarlet Letter” and arguing that AI will eventually be part of almost every game production process.

don't worry i'm sure she'll suddenly be able to do perfect earthbending the moment the plot requires it without even needing to earn it
For the first time in the avatar history, we have an Avatar who sucks at her OG element.

This is how it has always been BTW. People like this with zero artistic creativity or talent DETEST people who can create. It makes all the sense in the world to me that these guys would rather listen to AI slop than be in awe of a talent they'll never achieve.

It did. Absolutely developed a ML/AI program to discern frame to frame movement of animated characters and how the lighting/shading should follow along. "KLaS". Developed in 2015. A full 7 years before Midjourney V1 dropped. 6 years before DALL-E dropped. That software generated bezier curves to control the lighting/shading. Then the curves were reviewed and massaged frame by frame by artists. It's important to distinguish the difference between that form of ML/AI and the exploitative abusive and harmful general AI generative software we're pushing back on right now. Machine Learning has been useful for decades. Nuance is key.

downsides: ai bros have to get a new job upsides: literally everything
What if @valvesoftware just outright banned AI art in games on it's platform? Apart from Tim Sweeney bitching about it on twitter, what are the downsides?

My old tweet on this remains evergreen:
Remember: Game designers in the 80s and 90s were computer science majors who loved literature, classic fantasy and AD&D. There is a very obvious reason the AAA market had been declining for so long. I don't need to spell it out.
