A valuation report is much more than a target price. It explains what a business is worth and why. When reading one, focus on these 7 sections: • Executive Summary – Target price, fair value, and recommendation. • Business Overview – Business model, industry, and competitive advantage. • Financials – Revenue, margins, profit, cash flow, ROE/ROCE, and debt. • Valuation Method – DCF, P/E, EV/EBITDA, or comparable companies. • Key Assumptions – Growth, margins, discount rate, and future projections. • Risks – What could cause the valuation to go wrong. • Current Price vs Fair Value – Check if there's a real margin of safety. Remember, a target price is only as good as the assumptions behind it. The best investors don't just read the conclusion. They understand the logic behind it. Company valuation is not just about looking at the stock price or P/E ratio. A good analyst needs to look at the total value of the operating business and how it compares across different capital structures. Key concepts every analyst should know about EV/EBITDA: 🔹 Enterprise Value (EV) Breakdown 🔹 EBITDA as Operating Cash Proxy 🔹 EV/EBITDA Valuation Formula 🔹 Capital Structure Neutrality 🔹 Comparable Company Analysis (Comps) 🔹 M&A & Private Transaction Multiples 🔹 Growth & Margin Premiums 🔹 Depreciation Policy Differences 🔹 Peer Group & Historical Benchmarking The goal is simple: Value the core business.
