Enemies or Contenders? Politicians should be contenders, trying to win an election to put forward a vision for the future of a country, state or city. Treating contenders as ENEMIES is something that flared up in 2016 and has gotten worse as time progresses. Hopefully that begins to heal after this election for the good of the country and the world. @ProjectLincoln – at Alajuela, Costa Rica

I have read many, many, many opinions on the demo of the Tesla Roadster. And as expected, Elon fanboys defend him vigorously to the point of attacking anyone that even poses a question. I fall on the side of @MKBHD and @ylecun . Low value having this smoke and mirrors regardless of the engineering presented. Like I read somewhere else, Elon does this because he get a financial incentive from the market to be the carnival barker. Others don't replicate him because they don't have that incentive. Simple. – at Alajuela, Costa Rica

Elon's response to @ylecun exhibits this weird reaction that appears to have been normalized in the Trump era. Anyone that does not align with their view is treated like and enemy targeted for "destruction". They only treat other points of view as attacks. – at Alajuela, Costa Rica
I'm definitely not anti-achievement and never criticized real achievements, including by Elon. I even own two Teslas. I do expose marketing stunts that, while cool on the surface, are not the achievements they are claimed to be. Compressed air thrusters might give you acceleration boosts in any direction. They might even make your car hover for a couple of seconds if you accept replacing the passenger seat by a 400 liter high-pressure air tank. But they are not a path to actual flying cars. The same way Burt Rutan's SpaceshipOne was never going to be a path to orbital flights (just bunny hops out of the atmosphere). I am anti-Musk when it comes to politics. His political actions, the massive dissemination of disinformation through X and other channels, and his support for authoritarian regimes and racist ideas have the effect of weakening democracy and weakening human decency and social progress around the world.

– at Alajuela, Costa Rica
JD VANCE: The biggest reason why gas prices are so high is because when Joe Biden ... DOKOUPIL: It's almost been two years. At a certain point it becomes your economy, not Joe Biden's economy

Vance attributed high gas prices mainly to ~20% US refining capacity lost under Biden, but EIA data shows ~5% net decline since 2020 peak (major drop pre-Biden; stable later). – at Alajuela, Costa Rica

Okay, so it's just compressed air. Easier. But crappy specific impulse (less than 50 seconds). Even assuming that 50% of the mass of the car is the compressed air, that gives you less than 10s of useful thrust (with thrust-to-weight ratio larger than 1.0). Probably more like 5 seconds, actually. So the car must be an empty, lightweight shell containing big compressed air tanks. Cute demo, but totally impractical. But of course, you knew that.

Less enemies and less Us vs Them. The Bugatti CEO says it well. Both the USA and Europe can make great tech and engineering. Ridiculing the other is the cancer or society today.
Perfect reply to Elon’s flying car by Bugatti’s CEO.

People that are shitting on Europe after the "flying car". Have they vaporized plasma at temperatures 40 times hotter than the Sun? – at Alajuela, Costa Rica
It takes extreme engineering to generate extreme UV light.💥 High NA systems make tin droplets 1/3 the width of a hair and vaporize them to make a plasma 40 times hotter than the sun’s surface. Why? So we keep shrinking chip patterns to keep powering technology forward with you.

– at Alajuela, Costa Rica

@danielsuchar – at Alajuela, Costa Rica

– at Alajuela, Costa Rica
No solo discuten ideas distintas: habitan mundos interpretativos distintos." AI had been the standard term since 1956. 'Superintelligence' had a very specific and powerful meaning when Nick Bostrom wrote about it in 2014 - an AI that vastly exceeds human cognitive abilities across all domains. Conflating these terms is very confusing, counterproductive, historically uninformed, and insulting to the hundreds of thousands of people who have worked on AI over the last 70 years.

– at Alajuela, Costa Rica
