Check out my latest at National Post where I argue that Canada has led the UN resolution on Iran’s human rights for 20 years. But Canada’s September 6statement on Iran only mentioned shipping, nuclear activity and proxies. Not executions!

The Council of Iranian Canadians stands in full solidarity with the Jewish community of Canada in the face of antisemitism and violence.
We condemn the shooting at the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville on Kol Nidre. An attack on worshippers in their house of prayer is an attack on every Canadian.
Hatred has no home here. We stand together — in grief, in dignity, and in resolve.

“The modern confrontation with the Islamic Republic of Iran — what Trump describes as an economic D-Day arrives inextricably entangled with an ongoing trade war. This is precisely why Canada must be utterly clear about its motives. The target is a regime that shot its own young people in the streets, choked the world’s most important sea lane, and went to war with its neighbours. Confronting it is in Canada’s interest, regardless of the current political winds in Washington,” writes MLI contributor Avideh Motmaen-Far (@AvidehM).

My latest at @MLInstitute where I argue that although trade, security posture, and diplomacy are all thrown into a single, volatile container by Americans and introducing an Iran ultimatum into that environment raises the stakes exponentially. Canadian compliance on sanctions risks becoming another bargaining chip in a much larger dispute between Ottawa and Washington. The US may treat compliance as something Canada owes, while Canada may be tempted either to yield for tariff relief or withhold it out of deep institutional resentment.
Both instincts are dangerous traps. If Canada tightens the screws on Iran purely as a concession to an American administration, it has allowed its foreign policy to become subservient to the trade file, and those transactional costs will inevitably be passed down. Conversely, if Canada drags its feet against Iran out of pique toward the Trump administration, it allows the friction of one dispute to define a question of national security.

My latest analysis for Nexara Intelligence Group! Link below 👇
Every few years someone declares that Iran’s clerical rulers are finished, and every few years they are proven wrong. The Green Movement of 2009 was supposed to be the end. So were the price riots of late 2017, the bloody November of 2019, and the Mahsa Amini uprising of 2022. Each time the Islamic Republic took its losses, executed enough people to clear the streets, and carried on. Anyone arguing that the story is different this time owes the reader an account of why and must begin by admitting how often this prediction has failed.
So let me be careful about the claim. I am not saying the regime falls on a particular date, or that the Revolutionary Guard is about to lay down its weapons. The argument is narrower, and harder to wave away. Over the past year the Islamic Republic has lost three things it still possessed in 2009, in 2019, and in 2022, and there is no plausible way to recover any of them. It has lost the doctrine that justified the whole arrangement. It has run out of the money that kept its enforcers paid and its clients quiet. And it has lost the thing that mattered most, which was the population’s private belief that the system was permanent and resistance pointless. Whatever comes next in Iran, none of the roads that lead back to a functioning Islamic Republic are still open. That is what I mean by “no other option.” It describes a foreclosure, not a horoscope.

open.substack.com/pub/avideh… HIH Prince Reza Pahlavi @PahlaviReza has spent his life keeping a single belief alive: that Iran's long night will end and that its dawn belongs to its people. He was born on a day his nation celebrated, and he has repaid that welcome with a lifetime of faith in the right of Iranians to be free. Whether history calls him to lead a transition or simply records that he helped light the way, his cause is one any friend of liberty can respect: an Iran that is secular, democratic, and whole, chosen freely by the men and women who love it. That is why he remains, for so many, an icon of hope, and why so many are still waiting, with open hearts, for the day he comes home.

In the early hours of this morning, in a public square in Isfahan, the regime in Iran, executed two more young protestors, heroes from the Lion and Sun uprising in January: Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani and Amirhossein Safari Hosseinabadi.
This growing wave of executions is a sign of an increasingly desperate regime, that has lost all legitimacy.
But despite enormous risk to their own lives, the people of Isfahan proved that the Islamic Republic's campaign of terror is failing. Risking bullets, imprisonment, and death, ordinary citizens gathered in Alikhani Square in a heroic attempt to stop these executions. Their courage showed that fear has given way to defiance.
The gallows will not save the Islamic Republic. A people willing to stand unarmed before bullets and execution to protect one another cannot be defeated.
We stand with the families of Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani and Amirhossein Safari Hosseinabadi, whose sacrifice will not be forgotten. Those who ordered and carried out these murders must know that justice may be delayed, but it will come. They will be held accountable before a free Iran and under the rule of law.
At least eight more political prisoners from the same case remain under imminent threat of execution.
The world must not look away. Democratic governments, international organizations, and human rights institutions must use every available tool to increase pressure on the Islamic Republic and stop its machinery of executions before more innocent lives are taken.

Statement Regarding Recent Social Media Clips from Prince Reza Pahlavi’s Reuters Interview:
Yesterday a short clip of Prince Reza Pahlavi’s recent hour-long interview with Reuters was shared on social media. In it, he refers to his strategy of seeking defections from the Islamic Republic to ensure a more peaceful transition. The clip was cut and shared out of context and does not reflect the entirety of the Prince’s position and defections strategy.
The Prince has always believed that criminal elements of the regime should face justice for their crimes but that those who wish to join the movement against the regime, be part of a peaceful transition, and help build Iran’s future, should be welcomed.
In June 2025, in order to streamline and professionalize this process the Prince announced the “National Cooperation” platform. The platform, monitored and managed by a team of technology, data, and security professionals, allowed for the processing of a far greater number and a more strenuous vetting of potential defectors. The platform was broadcast into Iran via the most-watched satellite broadcast in the country, Iran International.
In the months that followed, tens of thousands signed up for the platform from across Iran’s political, military, and bureaucratic institutions. Thousands were members of the armed forces. Others occupied positions in civil institutions. Among those were senior regime and military officials, verified by their national identification cards. Others were members of the armed forces who were later killed in the January 8th and 9th uprising. All were keen to break from the regime and support the national movement against it.
The “National Cooperation” platform has since been updated and improved and continues to engage potential defectors across the state apparatus. More information will be provided on this platform in the coming weeks.
This background gives relevant, additional context to the specific answer the Prince gave to a specific question, regarding an interview he gave in 2018, both of which are reflected below:
“QUESTION:
You've said in a 2018 interview on Iran International that you've had dialogues with members of the IRGC and the Basij. More recently, you've asked some of them to defect.
What exactly is your position on the IRGC?
PRINCE REZA PAHLAVI:
Again, that's a great question. Thank you for asking it, because a lot of things have to be clarified.
After the Green Movement, and closer to the time when the Woman, Life, Freedom movement began, I started receiving direct messages on social media from people saying, 'I'm a Basiji in Mashhad,' or, 'I'm a member of the IRGC in such and such place. We hate this regime. We're not with them. We're looking for an opportunity to break away,' and so on.
When I told the media that I was in touch with elements like that, it was in that context. It's not that I was talking to the IRGC command. Not at all.
But there were elements of the Basij, the Sepah, and of course the military as well, who would communicate with me discreetly, as a sign that this was their position...”
The Prince remains firm in his belief that the Islamic Republic will be defeated with national cooperation, national solidarity, and national unity bringing together Iranians of all backgrounds and will continue and expand his efforts to secure political and military defections from the criminal regime as a means to bring about the end of its reign of terror.

Iran signed a nuclear ceasefire in June — then spent 18 days violating it. Missiles at U.S. bases. Ships hit in Hormuz. Concrete trucks rebuilding the sites they swore to freeze.
Same 47-year playbook: talk peace, buy time, strike. What's changed is the answer — strength, not appeasement.

A Regime That Signs in Ink and Fights in Blood
Let us be honest about what happened. In the spring, after a war the United States and Israel launched on February 28 to gut Iran's nuclear and missile programs, the regime agreed to a memorandum of understanding meant to stabilize the Gulf and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran signed. Then Iran cheated. Over the past week, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked three commercial vessels near the strait, set a container ship ablaze and forced its crew to abandon it, struck a Qatari LNG carrier, and then had the audacity to declare the strait "closed until further notice." When a regime signs a peace deal and then blockades a fifth of the world's seaborne oil, it is not seeking coexistence. It is testing whether America still has the will to say no.
President Trump gave the answer. He declared the ceasefire "over," and U.S. Central Command struck roughly 140 Iranian targets in a single wave — missile and drone launch sites, naval assets, ammunition depots, communications nodes, and coastal surveillance posts — the largest of three rounds this week. The Treasury Department cancelled Iran's oil-sale authorization and reimposed sanctions. This is what deterrence looks like when it is credible: swift, disproportionate, and unapologetic.

In the wake of PM Carney's willingness to re-open the islamic republic's Embassy in Canada, I think this is worth reading my latest here at Macdonald Laurier Institute.
“Canada is also home to one of the world’s largest Iranian diasporas, and that community lives under the long arm of the same security state — surveilled and intimidated on Canadian soil. The work is carried out by the IRGC’s intelligence arm and Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security, often through criminal proxies; CSIS has confirmed credible death threats here — former federal justice minister Irwin Cotler was the target of an Iranian assassination plot — and scholars who track transnational repression warn it is intensifying against Iranian-Canadians. For these Canadians, ‘Ghalibaf the reasonable’ is no abstraction. He is the man who wrote the threatening letter, swung the stick, and ordered the volley,” writes Avideh Motmaen-Far for MLI Inside Policy.

I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, a steadfast friend of the Iranian people and a proud defender of freedom.
At moments when moral clarity was required, Senator Graham stood on the right side. When friends were seldom found, he stood alongside the people of Iran in their struggle against tyranny.
He used his voice to ensure that the voices of those fighting for justice were heard in the halls of power. His support for Iran’s Lion and Sun Revolution earned him the title “Uncle Lindsey” among Iranians. He will be remembered with profound gratitude and deep respect.
We extend our deepest condolences to Senator Graham’s family, loved ones, colleagues, and the people of South Carolina and the United States.
May he rest in peace and may others carry on the fight for freedom.
