The Ubuntu 24.04 support drop is thanks to the native builds requiring some newer dependencies. Anyhow, there’s more to this Ghostty release than that. itsfoss.com/news/ghostty-1-4…

ā€¼ļø The git, curl and python3 in macOS still trust compromised eMudhra certificates, 11 days after Apple was told. Anyone can recover their keys, so an attacker on your network could pose as GitHub and feed you code. Researchers say macOS 27.2 even wiped fixes applied by hand.

Someone ported Haiku (the open source BeOS clone) to run on a Raspberry Pi 4. Entirely with AI. With one prompt. ā€œThree days after the first prompt the Pi boots the regular Haiku desktop from its SD card or from the network.ā€ Including ā€œOpenGL, OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.3 on the V3D GPU through Mesaā€, three different web browsers, and Photocraft (the Adobe Photoshop clone created by AI). ā€œI asked the agent it to deliver a working version of Haiku on Pi4 end-to-end without ANY manual intervention. Starting with just one prompt. The agent had to download sources, figure out build system, figure out qemu setup, figure out pushing images to the test rig, implement changes, testing… and it worked!ā€ github.com/haiku-pi/haiku-rp…

A privacy-first DNS resolver just chose to leave an entire country rather than lie to its users. Quad9 is shutting off its free DNS service in France on November 24, after a French court ordered it to block domains that BeIN Sports claimed were facilitating sports piracy. Quad9 refused. "We categorically refuse to alter or lie to you about the DNS responses you receive in a way that opposes your expectations." The court had actually reduced the fine to just €1,000 per day. Quad9 still walked away. Because the real problem was not the fine. It was the precedent. Complying would mean either applying French copyright law to Quad9's global DNS infrastructure, or using geo-blocking methods that Quad9 considers technically unreliable and ethically compromised. Either way, the integrity of the service breaks. This is what it looks like when a privacy tool takes its mission seriously. Most services would have quietly blocked the domains and moved on. Quad9 chose to exit instead šŸ‘

Jared Kushner cannot legally participate in meetings as Trump's envoy unless and until he is confirmed by the Senate and files financial disclosures. We sued to enforce the law last week. So, no, he can't join this meeting with Zelensky today. ft.com/content/581d8a59-b128…

Steam is finally going 64-bit on Linux. Valve is testing a new Steam Client Beta that moves the main Steam app from 32-bit to 64-bit. Considering Steam has kept its Linux client 32-bit for years while most Linux systems have been 64-bit for a long time. The new version also runs Steam inside a Steam Runtime container, which should make it easier for Steam to work consistently across different Linux distributions. That doesn't mean 32-bit support is disappearing. Steam will still need 32-bit libraries for older games and compatibility. The beta also adds Steam Achievement Sets, which let developers organize achievements into different groups
