Ramaphosa meets with the president of Coca Cola regarding a 500 million water supply deal. Weeks later, the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant gets shut down due to a chlorine supply shortage and maintenance issues. Days later, Coca Cola comes in to "save the day".
This is a 36,000 litre water tanker that’s been donated by Coca Cola to assist with the delivery of water to residents in Bronkhorstspruit and surrounding areas.
We welcome the support shown by private sector stakeholders as the City and Rand Water make headway to restore water supply through the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant.
The truck will be stationed at the Bronkhorstspruit Hospital, Cultura High School and Riamar Park Shopping Complex. @CocaCola_ZA @CityTshwane

Our media is messed up. Remember they picked a side, portraying General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as a corrupt cop for simply exposing crime. These are individuals who claim to be honest and cannot be bought.

WHY DID SOUTH AFRICA CHANGE ITS TAX LAWS TO ACCOMMODATE SHARIA-COMPLIANT BANKING?
I wonder if the majority of South Africans know that if you lobby hard enough, have a finance minister like Pravin Gordhan by your side, your religious laws can be accommodated in the country's tax laws and SARS will understand?
In 2010, Parliament introduced amendments to South Africa’s tax legislation to accommodate certain Islamic financial arrangements. These included section 24JA of the Income Tax Act, alongside related amendments affecting transfer duty and other taxes.
The arrangements are structured to comply with Islamic financial principles, to make them #halaal, including restrictions on interest. The difficulty for the tax system was that some of these transactions involved legal steps that differed from conventional loans and mortgages, even where their economic purpose was comparable. The 2010 amendments introduced rules intended to treat qualifying Islamic financing arrangements more comparably to conventional financial products for tax purposes. Basically, if they had been treated according to existing laws, @SARS would have made more money in collected taxes but, the government’s argument was tax neutrality: comparable economic transactions should not face different tax outcomes merely because their legal structures differ. So, basically they said no thank you to the extra tax revenue whilst the rest of us are milked dry 😒
So, if conventional banking already exists in South Africa, why should the state adjust its tax legislation for people who voluntarily choose a different financial system? If a customer chooses Sharia-compliant financing because they do not want to participate in interest-based lending, why shouldn’t that customer accept the financial and legal costs associated with that choice? Why shouldn't @SARS be allowed to collect extra revenue if there is any?
Why did Parliament choose to address this problem through legislation explicitly identifying Sharia-compliant arrangements, rather than relying entirely on general, religion-neutral rules for economically equivalent transactions?
Let's remember that South Africa is a secular constitutional democracy. Religious freedom protects individuals’ ability to practise their faith, but it does not automatically entitle every religious doctrine to its own legal or fiscal framework.
So, why is this the case with Islam? Are they just better at advocating for their causes or is there something else we must consider?

Why are you not talking about Black people that practice African spirituality? Muslims wouldn't eat food prepared during an African ceremony but somehow black people must eat their ritually prepared food.

Yoh I just remembered the days when the last day of school meant that all of us from different schools gather at the Workshop Bus terminals just nje because we can…. We looked forward to it and as kids we still felt safe enough to walk around and enjoy being in town but now the Dbn CBD is something completely different, there are informal shops owned by strangers that we don’t even know how they got them! We are not safe at all…
They employ people but pay them peanuts, they sells goods who’s safety standards we don’t even know neither is it even regulated, everyday we are seeing less and less formal shops that actually bring some investment into the country instead of selling illicit goods. But somehow this is something we should be celebrating and be happy that our CBD is deteriorating because of a government that fears enforcing its own laws to foreigners??
I really hope that real and proper businesses especially those that are losing our because of the illicit goods market will for a change speak up against the losses they face because of the black market that’s now thriving in this country from poor border control and the courts in South Africa allowing economic migrants to be disguised as “asylum seekers or refugees” and continue to exploit and ruin our country!!!
