American kids are dying by s*icide after being sextorted.
Sextortion is one of the fastest-growing threats facing teens in America, and most parents have no idea how it works.
1 in 5 teens say they’ve experienced it, and about 77% never told their parents.
Predators depend on that silence. You can break it.
Talk with your son or daughter tonight and make sure they know they can always come to you, no matter what. Try saying: “If this ever happens, come to me. No matter what you’ve sent or what anyone threatens, please tell me. We will get through this together.”
Know a parent who needs this? Send it to them.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988, the S*icide & Crisis Lifeline.

Two hours instead of waiting on the state lab. That’s how fast Montgomery and Williamson counties can now get DNA results on felony arrestees at booking. The results can’t be used as evidence in court, but jails can use them before setting bond.

Young women should not have to be paranoid to be safe… but they DO need to be prepared.
When you get to a hotel, don’t just grab the key and disappear into the hallway.
Pay attention to who is around you.
Check your surroundings before you enter your room.
Lock the door immediately.
And don’t keep anything sitting around with your room number written on it.
Some people call this “doing too much.”
I call it making sure these girls know how to move smart when nobody is standing beside them.

This is preposterous. This teacher raped two Texas boys. Period. Full stop.
And she’s getting off with a slap on the wrist and no sex offender registration requirement simply became the dad of one of the victims felt sorry for her?!
Not just no. But hell no.
We must fix this next session. Predators like her should be locked up and kept away from children for the rest of their lives.
ICYMI… TEXAS teacher Shelby Lashombe gets probation + four weekends in jail after admitting to sex with two 16yo boys.
Judge Thomas West agreed to the deal made by McLennan County prosecutor Will Hix.
One of the boys’ MOM called Lashombe’s actions “calculated and predatory.”
The boy’s DAD defended Lashombe and said he does NOT think she’s a sexual predator.
Lashombe will NOT have to register as a sex offender… texasscorecard.com/local/tex…

How many people have to die in #Austin for DA Garza to care? How many women have to be attacked? How many victims have to live in fear? The safety of your neighborhood depends on the DA bringing criminals to justice. If they won’t do their job, #Texas will. #txlege
.@EllenTroxclair absolutely cooks @JosePGarza's office. Garza was too chicken to show up himself so he sent one of his lackeys. #txlege

Yet another repeat offender in Travis County has had multiple criminal charges dismissed. But it gets worse.
This individual is also a wanted fugitive out of Iowa—released back onto our streets after getting off easy for his latest alleged crime here.
How many other fugitives are slipping through the cracks, walking free in Texas communities without being held accountable for their crimes?
This week, the House Select Committee on Governmental Oversight will investigate criminal accountability and how local prosecutors’ decisions are compromising public safety.
Texans deserve to know why dangerous individuals are ending up back on our streets and what the State of Texas can do to restore local accountability and protect our communities. #txlege
AUSTIN MAN punched a Thompson Austin hotel worker repeatedly after being asked to leave. The case was dismissed by County Attorney Delia Garza, despite several priors.
Isaiah Guzman is 20 and has been charged four times just since March.
A doorbell camera caught him assaulting a woman in her own front yard before throwing a rock through a 4Runner in the driveway.
The next day, he was caught stuffing $181 of merchandise into a backpack at Walmart, fleeing on a bicycle. After being caught, he told asset protection that Walmart is “a multi-billion dollar corporation and could afford to lose $181.”
Bond posted May 6 with a condition of no other criminal activity.
Six days later, an employee at the downtown Thompson Austin asks him to leave. Guzman punches him repeatedly and the victim never fights back or retaliates.
July 30: that assault is dismissed.
Then yesterday, arrested again on four new charges, including interfering with an emergency call. One of the charges was rejected the same day.
Eight charges in five months, with no real consequences.
College students experience sexual violence across every academic year, but the first months on campus—the “red zone”—are the riskiest, particularly for first-year students.
That's why it's important to talk with your college-age kid BEFORE something happens.

July DNA Updates. We are coming for you, Chicago! Who’s going to NCSL? Come by our booth to check out a Rapid DNA machine that processes eligible samples against our National DNA database in as little as 90 min!
FBI approves Rapid DNA on crime scene evidence for CODIS searches! Faster processing of forensic samples = faster justice for survivors.
After waiting 7 years myself, I’m celebrating this milestone. More to do, but we’re moving!
At CrimeCon our founder Ashley Spence shared the reality of unknowingly living one street from where her attacker was arrested —and how one DNA policy decision helped stop a serial rapist. State laws vary so dangerously, and the gaps are putting the public at risk. We won’t stop fighting to close those gaps.
