UPDATE: The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (#JMSDF) by Feb 1, 2023! Graph #1 depicts all active helicopter destroyers/light aircraft carriers, submarines, destroyers, frigates, fast attack missile craft and naval aviation. 🇯🇵💪🏻

The first warships built for the @HellenicNavy since the 1930s were six Nasty-class (Improved Tjeld) torpedo boats, built in Lindesnes, Norway, in 1966–67 and delivered in 1967.
Four remained in service until the late 1980s, when they were converted into coastal patrol vessels. The refit included removing their torpedo launchers, replacing one of the 40 mm guns with a 20 mm gun, and installing new engines and sensors.
Remarkably, they served until 2021 (one) and 2026 (three), when they were replaced by Island-class patrol vessels.

This penetrating deep dive surfaces pressing questions:
⚓ What is the cost of #China #Navy reliance on Dual Command Structure (Commanding Officer-Political Commissar) decision-making & Party Committee Meetings?
⚓ Particularly during time-sensitive or wartime submarine operations?
⚓ With all the communications/bandwidth challenges that operating submerged (& *hopefully* undetected) entails?

🇮🇱🤝🇬🇷 JOINT NAVAL EXERCISE: The Israeli Navy and Hellenic Navy conducted a joint exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, led by the commanders of both navies.
During the exercise, forces practiced identifying and neutralizing maritime threats, sailing as a joint task force, and sinking a hostile vessel using missile fire.
The exercise strengthens operational cooperation between Israel and Greece, enhancing joint capabilities to address emerging threats and maintain security and freedom of navigation in the Mediterranean Sea.

This is what NATO innovation looks like
From drones in the air to uncrewed vessels at sea, NATO Allies, partners and industry came together to test the technologies shaping the future of naval operations

ALT An Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) developed by STARK operates at speed during maritime trials at REPMUS 2026. The exercise brought NATO Allies, partners and industry together in Portugal to test the latest unmanned and autonomous technologies in a real-world maritime environment. From drones and robotic vessels to AI and advanced sensors, REPMUS 2026 helped NATO explore how emerging technologies could be integrated into future operations.
