The car? Japanese. The beret? European. The plastic tactical costume? American. The language? French. He’s still got a long way to go
Since seizing power in September 2022, Captain Ibrahim Traoré has radically transformed Burkina Faso's geopolitics, economy, and society.
Traoré completely cut traditional ties with France, expelling French troops and diplomats.
He formed close military ties with Russia, and established defense partnerships with Iran and Turkey.
Alongside Mali and Niger, Traoré led Burkina Faso out of ECOWAS to form the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
The junta nationalized several foreign-owned gold mines, launched a state-owned mining company, and mandated that foreign firms hand over a 15% stake to the government.
He banned the export of raw, unrefined gold to Europe and broke ground on a domestic refinery.
Moving away from the IMF and World Bank, his administration announced a $64 billion "Relance Plan" (2026–2030) fueled by domestic revenues to build infrastructure and triple energy capacity.
I’ve been buying ‘24’s from the Macon and have been very pleased. Nothing more than $40 either. I haven’t had enough 24 Chablis and there are many opposing viewpoints to make me tread carefully there.
Is 2024 the white Burgundy vintage to go deep on?
I don’t really buy Burgundy every year. Outside a few producers I trust regardless of vintage, I’d rather buy deeply when the style really suits me and cherry-pick the rest.
For whites, 2014 and 2017 are benchmarks for my palate. I even love the high-acid 2013s. 2019/20 can be excellent selectively. 2022 was strong, but not quite a vintage I felt compelled to buy broadly. I tasted many excellent 2023s at La Paulée SF, but the richer, more generous style again didn’t make me want to load up.
2024 is starting to look different.
Neal Martin’s reports are especially interesting: in the Côte d’Or, Chardonnay clearly outperformed Pinot, with higher malic acidity, more tension, less weight and less sun-kissed fruit. Puligny is described as potentially great, Chassagne more tensile than ’22/’23, and Meursault more mineral and less broad.
In Chablis, the best wines are lean, linear, tensile and almost old-school, though the vintage is less consistent.
And in the Mâconnais, Neal Martin repeatedly comes back to tension, nervosité and the word “classical.”
So maybe 2024 isn’t a great Burgundy vintage overall.
But could it be a great white Burgundy vintage?
I’m starting to think this may be one worth buying seriously.
Anyone tasting broadly enough yet to have a view?

Does this imbecile honestly think ANYONE is going to believe this insane made up story? He is absolutely the most audacious liar that has ever lived. He’s trying to tell us a vandal somehow cut the pool floor across 350 feet, somehow without being noticed by the monitoring camera or anyone else and that caused the algae? You have to be nuts to even make this story up and more nuts to believe it.
Pressed by CBS News’ @EdOKeefe on whether there is evidence vandals damaged the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, President Trump pointed to what he described as long cuts in the pool’s surface and claimed someone may have deliberately caused the recent algae outbreak.
“I saw it, they cut it. They cut it very violently,” Trump said. “The same thing with the floor, they cut it. And then they lifted it, they pulled it, and that's what it is.”
