Probably my paranoia but… The more of these I see, the more I think there is an agenda in the framing. Yes, they mention hospital ownership in the expanded post. But they keep leading with “doctor’s office.” It is a very purposeful misdirection

The key was the patient - doctor RELATIONSHIP! Dr Roy was YOUR doctor. He knew you and your family. He was not a PROVIDER of a service and fungible to be replaced by whomever the system chose. You trusted him because he cared about you and not RVUs.

Remember what it was like to be treated by a doctor who owned a private practice? I sure do. I've been thinking about that this week in "Sunday musings..." drdarrellwhite.com/the-slow-…

Let me start with screw the @washingtonpost they are crap journalists. These are hospital-owned clinics. The hospital controls the billing and collects the facility fee. Yet the Washington Post puts “doctors’ offices” in the headline, leaving readers with the impression that their physician is behind the markup. Misleading BS Patients deserve to know who sets these charges and who collects the money. If the hospital is charging the fee, put the hospital in the headline. Physicians shouldn’t have to answer for a billing policy their employer controls. washingtonpost.com/business/…

These doctors' offices ARE the hospital once they've been acquired. The doctors have no say in fees once they've been acquired; they are cubicled just like every other employee of the hospital. This is purposely misleading.
Doctors’ offices are charging patients 10 times more by claiming to be hospitals
Even when patients never step into a hospital, they may be charged hospital “facility fees,” and their care may be billed at higher rates. washingtonpost.com/business/…

Did you want to keep your doctor in 2008? Only you, the patient, can bring back private practice medicine. "Sunday musings..." is now on the blog: drdarrellwhite.com/the-slow-…

This is not mentioned often, but Kurt Thomas got screwed more than any American athlete by the 1980 Moscow Olympic boycott. 6 medals at the 1979 World Championship and a silver in the all-around. I doubt he would have beaten Aleksandr Dityatin in all-around in 1980 (and in the Soviet Union), but he had a chance to make an historic impact on USA Men's gymnastics. I got to know Kurt in 1995-96 when we did some TV spots for Jefferson-Pilot before the Atlanta 1996 Olympics. Very nice guy. Somewhat quiet. He just got never the big break.
U.S. gymnasts to win 4+ medals at one World Championships Kurt Thomas (1979) Nastia Liukin (2005) Rebecca Bross (2010) Simone Biles (2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019, 2023) Skye Blakely (2026)

Got news that may not read positive? Most release it late Friday, preferably on a holiday weekend. Not Bausch&Lomb which announced its separation with CEO/ex-Chairman Brent Saunders during biggest annual eye mtg. Here's what I think: healio.com/news/ophthalmolog…

If you are making the choice for yourself please read @anish_koka's post. If you are helping an older loved one make this decision please read Anish's post.
If you don’t lock in Original Medicare + a Medigap supplement during your one-time 6-month window when you first become eligible, you may never be able to get it later. Choose Medicare Advantage instead and, in most states, Medigap insurers can reject you for preexisting conditions (or ones you develop) if you try to switch back. Seniors I talk to almost universally don’t understand this and are enticed into Medicare Advantage plans with lower monthly premium sales pitch. They also don’t realize Advantage plans typically have higher medical copays than Original Medicare + Medigap Plan G. MA plans also apply much tighter management (prior auth + step therapy) to Part B drugs like chemo and infusions.

Bill Henniger is an absolute legend: - Air Force veteran - worked at General Motors in ops for 8 years - noticed CrossFit was starting to take off in the mid-2000's - founds Rogue Fitness in his Ohio garage in 2006, eventually leaves his GM job to lead it - becomes the official supplier to the CrossFit Games and the default supplier of CrossFit gyms, not to mention many other gym types - no PE, not even any outside investors, and no debt - grows Rogue to ~1,400 employees, with a massive domestic US manufacturing presense - Now closing on a 1,000,000 sq. ft. facility in Columbus, Ohio that can process up to 250K lbs of steel / day. - still shutting up idiots on the internet under his own name
Someone commented disbelief on a post I made regarding Rogue Fitness building a 1M+ sq ft gym equipment manufacturing facility in the US and that I was impressed it was owned 100% by one guy started in a garage. So, the owner of Rogue, Bill Henniger, dropped the hammer with an epic reply and then graciously offered to give the guy a tour of what he’s built. Living in a time where this sort of exchange is possible and to be able to watch it is amazing.
