Theft by extortion is itself a weak argument, because all governments ultimately have a monopoly on violence. Your argument reduces down to anarchy, which is fine. Go live on a deserted island outside of the control of any government, if you don't depend on anything a government provides.

It's unpopular to say, but we now need to pay our politicians more. Take the US House. Their salaries have been frozen since 2009. In real terms, they've gone from a very respectable $300k to barely half that, $174k. That's much less than many could make in the private sector.
