6. The impact of small businesses From the Chamber of Commerce: • 68 cents of every dollar spent at a local small business stays in its community. • Small employers account for 2/3 of net new employment. • They innovate at roughly 12x the rate of larger businesses.

If my wife and I could manage our greeting card racks everywhere, we would. But in Denver, we do and always will. These visits are gold! – at Denver, CO

🚨FRIEDBERG: "60% of middle class household's net worth is in their home. Only 10% is in owning the S&P 500, index funds, whatever in their retirement accounts. By creating this American dream around housing and allowing the Federal government to provide loans on housing, we've increased the cost of housing and created a destructive housing bubble that reduced people's exposure to participation in productive value creation like the ownership of businesses. Instead, we've stored our net worth in a house and in order to keep the economy and the social structure stable, we've created policies that allowed the continuation of the growth in the value of houses so people feel that their net worth is incrementing, and that's unfortunately very unnatural."

Our January was back to normal for wedding invitations and save-the-dates requests at the stationery boutique. We're even seeing young couples! It's been years, but family optimism is back.

Older generations are often shocked when I describe our most engaging guests at the shop. Gen Z and younger Millennials specifically say they're minimalist on social media and looking for tangible/meaningful relationships in light of AI. It feels like a proactive life shift. We own a stationery boutique.

As more AI use source citations 💯 like Perplexity does, SEOs will start writing more blogs, not less.

Scott Bessent at the Senate confirmation hearing on Thursday: "I believe Wall Street has done great the past few years and that Main Street has suffered. It's time to have a Main Street small business-led recovery."

If you're visiting the spa in The Ritz Carlton in Portland, you'll be greeted by these Rose Sachets in your locker. They're also available for sale in the spa. The spa manager came across our sachet collection and asked if we could make these for their guests. It's a beautiful fit, so we were happy to help!

The first business book I read was "The Four Steps to the Epiphany" by Steve Blank. It's customer centric. People talk about being obsessed with product than distribution. I'm obsessed with the customer and guests. I recommend this book to anyone starting a business.

About to crack open some Evergreen Pine Sachets from @DavidSandusky to give the full woodland experience while watching my favorite movie!
These Evergreen Pine Sachets used to be seasonal, which was frustrating to me because if you've ever spent summertime in the woods, this is the smell! Christmas has become the introduction season. Now, people tell us these sachets remind them of home or vacations in the woods when they buy again. Transitioning complete!

I am so glad to see you focused on this. The fines are both criminal and civil, so there are additional possible fines of almost $600/day AND possible JAIL TIME! We are trying to get the Trump admin to make a statement that they will not enforce fines (and that the Treasury will abandon this unconstitutional rule). Anything you can do to assist is appreciated by 34 million small biz entities!
Tens of millions of small- and medium-sized businesses face the looming threat to file "Beneficial Ownership Information Reports" with the federal government by Jan 1, 2025, or face up to $10,000 in fines or 2 years in prison. Yes, the rule has been temporarily stayed for now by a Texas court, but that could change any time so small business owners can’t really rely on it. Compliance with this rule takes up to 11 hours for the 32 million impacted businesses. Nationwide, that is the equivalent of 510 lifetimes. Small businesses should focus on their own success, not keeping government bureaucrats busy with intrusive data & paperwork.
