Geoffrey Barrow, in his inaugural lecture as Professor of Scottish History, University of Edinburgh, 1979: "The failure of Scotland to establish its own organisation for public service broadcasting was the greatest cultural disaster which Scotland suffered in the 20th century."

Are we paying attention, Scots?
Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o understood it with absolute clarity. You do not need chains if you have classrooms. You do not need to physically prevent a people from imagining their own freedom if you have already shaped the language in which they think. If the colonized child learns to read in the colonizer’s language. If the colonized child learns that the "great books" were written in the colonizer’s language. If the colonized child learns that the history worth knowing begins with the colonizer’s arrival. If the colonised child learns that success, sophistication, education itself, is measured by proximity to the coloniser’s standards: That child does not need to be imprisoned. That child will imprison themselves. Will measure themselves against a standard designed to find them lacking. Will work their entire life to approximate an ideal that was never constructed to include them. Will call this effort "self-improvement." The classroom was the most elegant instrument the colonial project ever designed. More durable than any fort. More effective than any army. Because armies are visible. Forts can be stormed. But a belief installed in childhood, in the voice of a teacher, in the language of learning itself, that is nearly invisible. And what you cannot see, you cannot dismantle.

Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland are the only countries to have two separate budgets a year. Their own budget, trying to juggle fiscal policies with one hand behind their back, and an English budget who think they have a right to drip-feed the money they have stolen from us back.

Oh here we go again Scotland is about to collapse into the North Sea: nitter.gq/ScotNational/status/21… Westminster finally wakens up to the now many polls showing a #Yes majority for independence. Oh & BTW "receipts" are about to collapse because Labour has put the kybosh on new drilling.
BREAKING: North Sea oil and gas tax receipts are forecast to collapse to 'close to zero' in just five years' time, with major implications for Scotland’s finances The Office for Budget Responsibility has also said that North Sea output will decline by 10% annually

Activist: "Nobody needs to eat meat in 2026. We should all just go vegan." Farmer: "Who grows it?" Activist: "Farmers." Farmer: "Name a vegan farmer." Activist: "There are loads." Farmer: "Name one. Round here." Activist: "..." Farmer: "The nearest arable man to this gate is Geoff. Wheat, rape, beans. He sprays the rape about 11 times a year, shoots the pigeons off it in March, and keeps 300 ewes because his soil needs sheep in the rotation or it dies. The muck on his beans came out of my yard." Activist: "That's conventional farming." Farmer: "That's all farming. Every veg field in this country gets its goodness from an animal or a factory. Pick one. The organic ones picked the animal." Activist: "You could farm without livestock." Farmer: "A handful try. They buy in fertiliser, which is gas, or they buy in muck, which is us, or they rotate the field out to clover for 2 years and sell nothing off it, which is poverty." Activist: "Then it's possible." Farmer: "It's possible the way living on air is possible if somebody else pays for the air. Vegan food is a thing people eat. Vegan farming is a thing nobody does, including the people who grow your lunch." Activist: "I've gone vegan." Farmer: "You have. Your farmer hasn't. He can't afford to. He's not even vegetarian, he's got sheep in the beans."

The only investment they will make in Scotland is for what England needs and wants. Hence its WMD base and upgrades and of course Nuclear. They desperately want to locate their nuclear power stations here……..and no doubt their waste.
Feeling quite underwhelmed by #Budget2026 For Scots £200M for Grangemouth already cancelled. Today £200M for the Acorn Carbon Capture project cancelled. We really get nothing back for our industries, for all the energy we provide to rUK. A spit in the wind for pensioners help

1908: a Smithsonian doctor examines around 2,000 Native Americans still living on game and finds exactly two cases of cancer, in a population where a modern doctor would expect hundreds. 1913: a missionary doctor arrives in Gabon, examines thousands of patients a year living on fish and game, and reports he could not find a single case of cancer. 1920s: a doctor working among Labrador's Inuit on seal, fish and caribou sees no cancer, no appendicitis and no heart disease in a decade, and then watches all three arrive with the trading post. 1935: the first cancer in a Canadian Inuit population is recorded at that post, within a generation of the shop opening. 1964: a cardiologist tests 400 Masai warriors on milk, blood and meat and cannot find a single heart attack, in men eating more saturated fat than anyone in America. 1990: a Swedish doctor examines every adult on the island of Kitava and finds not one stroke, not one heart attack and not one case of diabetes among 2,300 people who have never opened a packet. 2026: half of British people born after 1960 will get cancer, and heart disease kills more people than anything else on earth. The diseases we're told are the price of living longer were so rare in people living on the animal that doctors crossed oceans to confirm it, and came back with the same empty notebook every time. Each of them was told it was a coincidence, and each of those populations was then given the shop. Nobody has ever had to ship cancer to a people. A sack of flour and a drum of seed oil are lighter, and between them they do the job.

Few folk know that the reason France was in Louisiana, is due to the Scottish financier John Law of Lauriston (1671-1729), who held the title Comptrolleur Générale & was responsible for the creation of the Bank of France in 1716 & the French venture into the Mississippi delta.

Yet Labour want to impose mini Sizewells all over Scotland to power England .
Sizewell C has always been terrible value for money - probably the most expensive electricity we’ll ever have and under this new RAB scheme, we’ve started paying for it at least a decade ahead of any electricity coming out of it. Always over budget and out of time - that’s nuclear. Sizewell is the same design as Hinkley, which is decades and tens of £Billions - over budget. It’s disgraceful that private money has this free ride at our expense - we get the risk they get the benefits. We should pull the plug. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw0k…

This demonstrates how the British state media can suppress a story damaging to their regime. @STVNews @BBCScotlandNews There is no other country where this is not headline news for days.

In 1309 Scotland's clergy said Robert Bruce was made king "by their authority." In 1320, Arbroath declared that a king who betrayed the realm's freedom could be removed. In Scotland the monarch didn't stand above the realm. New on Substack: By Their Authority angrypict.substack.com/p/by-…

"The Declaration of Arbroath is dated 6 April 1320. It is a letter to Pope John XXII, sealed by the nobility and written in the name of the barons, freeholders and the whole community of the realm of Scotland." "Arbroath didn’t invent that principle. What it adds is an explicit statement of conditional kingship: if Robert betrayed the freedom of the kingdom by subjecting it to England, he could be removed and another king chosen." "the monarch doesn't stand at the head of this sequence. He appears at its end: the people agree upon Robert, receive him with their knowledge and consent, and by their authority he is endowed with the kingdom."
