वाढती लोकसंख्या आणि 'अल निनो'चे आव्हान;

Pune’s Vetal Tekdi faces destruction — 7,000+ trees proposed to be felled for #BBPP Road, allegedly to save just 6mins of travel time, or to open hill for ₹7,000+ crore construction projects.
While a national level reporter takes note of it, local political leaders ignore it.

High Court clears Balbharti road again. But let’s be real.... this was never about traffic.
It’s about unlocking land worth thousands of crores. The road will come, the land will change hands, and traffic? Well, that was never the problem to begin with.
Replying to @akkiman
Also this parcel of land of over 80+ acres is very conveniently located between 2 metro stations. Remember that the TOD policy allowed higher FSI's upto 4 near metro stations and it was also relaxed recently. hmm... timesofindia.indiatimes.com/…

PRESS NOTE
This press note is to set the record straight on certain claims coming in the media against the citizens' fight to save our Tekdis.
Candidates are claiming that VTBKS is intentionally bringing up this issue on the backdrop of the assembly elections. We strongly condemn such statements. This hurts the sentiments of thousands of Punekars who came on the road on 15th April 2023 asking for these projects to be scrapped from the DP.
Shri Chandrakantdada Patil is reported to say that the projects have been "halted" when he was Guardian Minister. punebulletin.com/archives/13…
But note that RTI documents accessed since April 2023 show that files have continued to move within the government- mojani has been done recently for the tunnels, modifications in HCMTR alignment were approved by the State Govt in May 2024 and the Commissioner approved realignment of BalBharati-Paud Phata Road on Paud side in July 2023.
On 15th April 2023, several thousand Punekars came on the road asking to save Vetal Tekdi from road projects. In the face of elections for the Lok Sabha in May and for Vidhan Sabha now, from VTBKS we have put out the same demands.
1. To delete the three destructive projects planned on Vetal tekdi from Pune’s Development Plan that is BalBharati-Paud Phata Road, HCMTR and Twin tunnels from Panchavati-Sutardhara and Panchavati-Gokhalenagar – which will permanently destroy Vetal Tekdi.
2. To focus on strengthening public transport by improving PMPML, completing Metro network and last mile connectivity. Improving PMPML services must be put on high priority
3. To notify Vetal Tekdi and other tekdis in Pune as Natural Heritage Sites and No Development Zones.
From citizens, the demand from all candidates and political parties is to give a written clear commitment to delete these projects from the DP.
Some facts:
· The history of residents fighting for the tekdi is long and not limited to raising during elections.
· Then State Government removed the BalBharati-Paud Phata Road from the 1987 DP due to citizen efforts.
· In 2006, when PMC tried to put the BBPP Road, citizens resisted and work was stayed by the Court.
· In 2013, 30,000 residents participated in the DP 2007-27 process, asking for NO roads on our hills
· In 2015, members of the DP Planning committee Dr Sachin Punekar and Sarang Yadwadkar had submitted a report recommending that the BBPP road and tunnels be scrapped from DP and that hills be declared No Development zones.
Climate change is already on us - rising temperatures, water scarcity, importance of tekdis for groundwater recharge, need for open spaces etc. are well documented for Pune. Sufficient data and evidence have been presented to the admin on why these projects on the tekdi are disastrous for the city, it is time the politicians stopped pitching "environmental activists" against development and take a clear stand for the city. Environment centric planning of all infrastructure projects and emphasis on public transport is the need of the day.
We request all politicians to commit to preserving Vetal Tekdi and all the hills of Pune.

Our MVA sabha in Pune got cancelled yesterday due to the heavy rains.
Amongst many other things, we are firm on these issues of Pune:
1) Cancel the proposed destruction of Vetal Tekdi.
2) Convert the riverfront destruction plan of the bjp into a river rejuvenation program as wanted by Pune.
Currently the rivers are being narrowed and concretised.
We will widen it, deepen and ensure its natural and clean flow.
3) Pune’s airport needs expansion and a new civilian international airport is needed.
The bjp govt in the centre hasn’t acted on our proposal since 2020.
4) Ensure sustainable development of Pune as against the haphazard work of the bjp for contractors.
We are witnessing flash floods with rains in every season since the bjp took over the Pune Municipal Corporation and other elected posts.
It’s a shame that the bjp didn’t allow the Lok Sabha bypolls to happen in Pune for more than a year.
Pune didn’t have a voice in the nation’s Parliament for over a year due to bjp’s fear of losing the seat.
Pune’s vote for @DhangekarINC ji is a vote for Pune’s real voice in the Parliament.

I'm truly encouraged to see someone who has belittled environment activism in the past, now agreeing that their voices must be heard. Yes, this is the push and pull of a vibrant democracy, something we are losing in an increasingly polarized country.
No one is anti-environment, no one is anti-development. All we, the 'tekdivists' of @VTBKS_Pune, want is a livable city planned factoring in the challenges of today and the future, not based on some outdated 1980s ideas of 'development'.
I’m am truly encouraged to see a group of citizens coming together, using the elections as a platform to push forward their positive agenda. While I dont fully agree with their stand, watching #Tekdi activists, and volunteers unite to voice their opinions and demand a say in the democratic process is a powerful reminder of what democracy should be—active, engaged citizens shaping the future. I wholeheartedly welcome this initiative and hope it inspires more people to stand up and make their voices heard...
Your #Vote is your loudest voice.
