The biggest betrayal isn’t just what they did. It’s knowing they would have continued doing it if you had never found out. They weren’t planning to tell you the truth. They weren’t going to give you the chance to make an informed decision about your own life. They were comfortable letting you love them, trust them and believe in a version of the relationship that they knew wasn’t entirely real. And that tells you something important. You weren’t given honesty because they respected you enough to tell you the truth. You found the truth because something exposed the lie. Stop waiting for a confession, a genuine apology or an explanation that makes their behaviour easier to accept. The fact that they were willing to deceive you for as long as they could is all the clarity you need. Your closure is realising that if you had never found out, they would have let you keep believing the lie. You deserve a love that is honest even when the truth is inconvenient, not one that only becomes truthful when it has no other choice.
