This swing was really sliced. As anyone who has played golf will say, that will hurt your distance. I posted this back in 2016 (two years of Statcast data), so is due for an update. But pattern is quite clear. In case of Judge: lost 40 feet to his slice nitter.gq/tangotiger/status/7989…

With so much of playoff run scoring concentrated in home runs *and* with there being fewer homers due to a de-juiced ball, I’m not surprised we’ve already seen 7+ inning outings from starting pitchers. It’s not as much “starting pitching is back” as it is “runs won’t occur.”

Yes! It’s the first matchup where the starting pitchers’ ERAs added up to a number less than 1 since Fernando Valenzuela (0.00 ERA in 25 IP) faced Mike Krukow (0.53 ERA in 17 IP) on 4/23/1985. they gave up 0 ER in 8 and 9 IP, respectively (min. 15 IP for both pitchers)

@MLBRandomStats this has gotta be up there for lowest ERA matchup (given amount of innings pitched)

Among those who did not receive qualifying offers: Clayton Kershaw, Carlos Rodon, Anthony DeSclafani and Jon Gray. The most surprising of the bunch might be Gray. Rockies didn’t deal him at the deadline, didn’t extend him and now won’t get any compensation at all if he leaves.

Started shifting dramatically midseason, hit more balls in the air than basically anybody, emphasize throwing breaking stuff instead of fastballs, heavily feature SSW pitcher profiles to the point I think they focus on it. All very modern concepts backed by data.
Assuming this holds, the Braves winning the World Series is not an anti-analytics triumph by any means. Let's just put that out there now.
