BREAKING:
French police have encountered rioters and looters armed with AK47s and Scorpion submachine guns on the streets of Paris, Marseille and Lyon.
The information comes from the Le Journal du Dimanche journalist Laura Tchekov, who says that her newspaper has received this information from sources within the DGSI, Franceโs main internal security agency.
The weapons were carried by minors and young adults described as being part of organized crime groups but sometimes also close to the Islamist movement in France.
The journalist says that not all armed
rioters were arrested and that several of them remain on free foot.
Itโs believed that police officers refrained from making arrests as they thought they could be both outmanned and outgunned at the moment and that hundreds of people were on the streets, creating a risk of a shoot-out that could have resulted in a large number of wounded and dead.

Yeah, we definitely donโt need strategic alliances to maintain our footing on the world stage without obligating even more troops and money to forward operating bases.

Obvious statements.
Since the American President announced the energy ceasefire a week ago, Russia has deliberately attacked Ukraineโs energy and oil and gas sectors 76 times. Last night alone, there were strikes on substations in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions. Tens of thousands of families remain without power. Energy workers and repair crews are working virtually around the clock to restore electricity supply. Overnight, the Russians also struck residential buildings in our regions. As of now, 12 people have been reported injured, including two children. Two people have been killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. This morning, there was a strike on an agricultural enterprise in Volyn. All necessary services are working at the site.
In total, over this past week, the Russians have attacked Ukraine with almost 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 66 missiles, most of them ballistic. The main targets of these strikes are energy facilities โ the Russians are trying to cause a blackout. And America should see that Russia is not taking any reciprocal steps in response to sanctions relief or agreements. On the contrary, they take every signal of an opportunity to make money as proof that their bet on war is paying off and they can keep fighting. It is because of this position of Russiaโs that the war continues, not because Ukraine is rightfully defending itself. It is Russia that must face pressure for peace to have a chance. Thank you to everyone who understands this and helps.

UKRAINE, RUSSIA AND THE ELECTIONS QUESTION
Democratic legitimacy, martial law and the manufacture of political illegitimacy
1/20 - THE ACCUSATION
For years, Russian officials and their international amplifiers have questioned Volodymyr Zelenskyy's legitimacy, arguing that Ukraine's failure to hold presidential elections proves he is an unelected dictator.
The argument is now routinely repeated by American political commentators and European accounts sympathetic to Kremlin narratives.
But it rests on a fundamental omission: Ukraine's elections were postponed under wartime legislation following Russia's full-scale invasion.
Meanwhile, Russia has continued conducting elections under conditions marked by documented candidate exclusions, restrictions on opposition, state-media dominance and substantial allegations of electoral manipulation.
To evaluate these claims properly, we must examine constitutional law, electoral administration, political pluralism and the actual treatment of opposition figures in both countries.
Three questions matter:
โข Is the continuation of political authority legally established?
โข Can citizens participate in genuinely competitive elections?
โข Are political opponents permitted to challenge those governing them?
The distinction between holding an election and conducting a genuinely democratic election is central.

Russia currently lacks the diesel refining capacity to fulfill this agreement. That's the point everyone is missing.
The deal potentially gives Moscow a powerful economic incentive to end the war, or at least secure a ceasefire that stops Ukrainian strikes on its energy infrastructure.
That would allow Russia to repair refineries, restore production, and exploit high global diesel prices. Ending the war would also reduce military diesel consumption, freeing additional supplies for export.
My assessment? Coercive diplomacy through economic leverage.
Trump is dangling a lucrative opportunity Putin cannot fully exploit while his refineries remain under attack.
Want the money? Secure a ceasefire or end the damn war.
That's the strategic calculation. Peace becomes more profitable than war.
โก๏ธ BREAKING: ZELENSKYY CRITICIZES U.S. DECISION TO ALLOW RUSSIAN DIESEL PURCHASES, CALLING IT A โWEAK DECISIONโ
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the U.S. decision allowing purchases of Russian diesel, calling it a โweak decisionโ made at the very moment Ukrainian and American negotiators are discussing ways to end the war.
Zelenskyy said Ukraineโs negotiating team is currently in Florida for a two-day visit, holding talks with the U.S. team on ending Russiaโs war against Ukraine โ or, at minimum, reaching a ceasefire.
According to the Ukrainian president, an energy ceasefire could be the first step.
โA starting point could be an energy ceasefire. This is very important for our people, for our families,โ Zelenskyy said.
He stressed that while the Ukrainian and American teams are holding talks in Florida, U.S. President Donald Trump is speaking with Vladimir Putin โ and Washington is simultaneously allowing Russia to export diesel.
โThis is additional money for this war, additional money for the suffering inflicted on us. Without a doubt, it only fuels Putin and gives him the ability to wage even more war,โ Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president highlighted what he described as a contradiction between discussing peace with Kyiv while simultaneously allowing Russia to earn additional revenue from energy exports.
โAt this very moment, when we are talking about peace, America is giving Russia the opportunity to export diesel. I donโt know how much it is โ millions, billions. In any case, all of this goes toward the war against people, against Ukraine, against all of us,โ he said.
Zelenskyy went further, saying he believes the Ukrainian negotiating team is being used as a cover while the U.S. makes decisions that benefit Russian exports.
โI believe our team is simply being used as a smokescreen, and this is definitely not fair. This is definitely not how partners should act. And in my view, this is a weak decision,โ Zelenskyy said.
โUnfortunately, a weak decision by strong partners.โ

President Trumpโs diesel fuel supply deal with Vladimir Putin is a lose-lose.ย The amounts are too small to have a meaningful, sustained effect on the record prices American drivers, truckers, shippers, farmers, ranchers and homeowners are paying at the pump, which are largely a result of Trumpโs war of choice against Iran. But the deal does throw Putin a lifeline to continue his war of aggression against Ukraine (which Trump promised to end in 24 hours), the other contributor to record high diesel prices.ย How is this good for America?

Key points on the Trump-Putin russian diesel deal and its implications
- What exactly did Trump do? On Fri, Oct 9, President Trump announced a deal with Putin to supply approximately 4.8 million metric tons of russian diesel to U.S. and global markets. Also, the U.S. Treasury Department issued a temporary license easing sanctions on russian diesel until Apr 2027.
- Legality of Trump's decision. Signed into law by President Biden on Apr 8, 2022, the Ending Importation of Russian Oil Act prohibits imports of russian energy products into the U.S. Lifting the ban requires specific conditions to be met, including a russian withdrawal accepted by Ukraine, consultation with Congress, and a 90-day review period. Another law, the Countering Americaโs Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), signed into law by President Trump on Aug 2, 2017, also requires congressional review of certain sanctions-relief decisions.
- Bipartisan opposition in Congress. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick plans to introduce the bipartisan Ronald Reagan Peace Through Strength Act to block russian oil purchases. Separately, a bipartisan group of 7 senators led by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said the imports violate the 2022 ban on russian energy and urged the administration to reverse course.
- Could the decision be challenged in the Supreme Court? Legal challenge would normally begin in a lower federal court. A plaintiff would need to prove that the decision caused a specific legal injury. The case could eventually reach the Supreme Court, but there is no automatic right to challenge the decision. Congress can also respond through legislation and oversight.
- Limited economic benefits. Trump announced approximately 4.8 million metric tons of russian diesel for release onto U.S. and global markets. That is equivalent to roughly 9.2 days of U.S. diesel consumption or approximately 30 hours of global diesel demand. The move is unlikely to significantly affect U.S. or global fuel prices.
- Uncertainty over russian supply capacity. Russia is facing refining constraints, partly because of Ukrainian strikes on its oil infrastructure. This raises questions about whether Moscow can deliver the promised quantities on schedule.
- Potential benefits for the Kremlin. The announced shipments could generate approximately $7 billion in gross sales revenue for russia. Easing sanctions on russian energy exports would provide Moscow with additional revenue. The decision demonstrates political support for the aggressor. It also creates a precedent for reducing pressure without any concessions from the russian side.
- Political implications ahead of the midterms. Creating the appearance that the administration is acting to lower gas prices ahead of the midterms. It also gives Trump an opportunity to blame Ukraine for high fuel prices and potentially for electoral losses. Personal tensions with Zelenskyy, Trumpโs favorable stance toward Putin, and elements of the administrationโs broader foreign policy that resemble the Kremlinโs approach may also play a role.
- Growing pressure on Ukraine. Trump has criticized Zelenskyy, called for elections to choose a new Ukrainian leadership. Trump publicly demanded an end to Ukrainian strikes against russian oil refineries. The administration is reportedly threatening to halt the PURL weapons procurement program. There are also threats to halt all intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
- Elections in Ukraine. Zelenskyy reiterated Kyivโs long-standing position that Ukraine can hold elections only if russia agrees to a ceasefire lasting at least 60 days.
- Ceasefire. On Sun., Oct. 12, POTUS announced a ceasefire, claiming both Ukraine and russia had agreed, although neither side confirmed it. Axios later reported that it did not cover civilian targets and was meant to halt strikes specifically on oil refineries. Since russia had already destroyed Ukraineโs only oil refinery, the ceasefire did not last even 1 day and was followed by heavy russian attacks on civilians. Earlier, on Sept. 14, 2026, Trump announced a similar ceasefire without consulting both sides. That one also failed to materialize.
