My priority for Scotland would be to establish a new banking network based on the German Sparkassen model, a Scottish stock exchange, realign the Scottish National Investment Bank with new management, establish a Scottish central bank, issue new currency & apply to join the EU.

🇩🇪🇪🇺 AfD is the greatest threat facing Europe.
It advocates leaving the euro and the EU, despite over 50% of German exports depending on them.
It favours a Berlin–Moscow axis over European unity, making it a major threat to Europe.
Germany must continue public investment and maintain strong fiscal support to drive economic recovery.
Its moral obligation is to prevent AfD’s rise.
It could mean the end of everything we fought for.

Prime Minister of Italy 🇮🇹🇺🇦
“If Ukraine stopped defending itself tomorrow, as many hope or propose, we would not have peace. We would be discussing the occupation of a European nation and the return of Soviet-style imperialism that Europe experienced for half a century..
...no one will convince me that the surrender of those defending their freedom can be called peace.
The peace we want, and which we are working to build, even at the cost of losing consensus, is a just peace, because only a just peace can last.
Only a just peace safeguards Europe and our interests.”

Awesome woman..
I couldn't agree more..

Of course, we are not losing this war. But we are losing people. Because of the Russian attacks, we're losing people and time. It's such a pity, because our children don't have a real life and childhood. Not only children, but all people. That's why we need to end this war as quickly as possible. I hope that our partners, Americans and Europeans, will help us. God bless, our strong soldiers stay strong on the battlefield. It helps me stay strong during any kind of negotiations.

BIG | 🇩🇪🇺🇦‼️ German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has warned that forcing Ukraine to capitulate would amount to a surrender for Europe as a whole, reaffirming his strong support for Kyiv.
“Ukraine’s capitulation, or even unconditional surrender, is not a solution, because it would mean surrender for all of us. That is precisely why I support Ukraine so firmly. It is in our own interests. It is in the common interest of every one of us,” Merz declared.
🔥 Merz is making a point that goes far beyond Ukraine’s borders. Allowing Russia to achieve through diplomatic pressure what it has failed to secure militarily would have consequences for European security. Moscow’s invasion has already challenged the principle that borders cannot be changed by force. For Germany and its European partners, supporting Ukraine is therefore not simply an act of solidarity. It is also about preventing Russian aggression from setting a precedent that could threaten other European countries.

It is notable that in Italy, a big element of the protests is against aid to Ukraine and an increase in Italian military spending.

Every time russia announces they are ready for peace - the massive attack on civilians follows. I counted at least 16 ballistic hits in Kyiv - feels like Armageddon.
It's not just energy. Oil is a feedstock for a whole range of products from plastics to cosmetics to pharmaceuticals....Does she not realise this.

If this happens Labour in Scotland will be dead, support for independence will soar and Equinor will shut up shop and leave the UK.
NEW: Miatta Fahnbulleh is leaning towards rejecting the giant Rosebank oilfield in what would be a blow for the North Sea energy industry and a major victory for climate campaigners.

One gas we need is hydrogen because local or domestic H2 long term storage enables communities and households to go off grid and put companies like this out of business. The other is biogas - perhaps mixed with H2 - so people with gas boilers can go on using them @GutoOwenH2
The new gas field isn’t going to bring down your bills.
Gas is bought & sold globally, so the reality is, fossil fuels controlled by dictators have Britain in a chokehold til we fully embrace gas-free driving & heating and cut the link between electricity and gas.
BUT, fwiw, getting gas locally is still the right move while we’re transitioning off it. It’s a bit cleaner and brings jobs and tax revenue to Britain.

This is nonsense. UK oil demand is roughly 1.4m bbl/day. Rosemount's peak production is estimated at 60,000 bbl/day
Urgent: the government is soon to decide whether to give the green light to Rosebank, a move that would lock us into decades more climate-wrecking oil. @friends-earth.bsky.social tool helped me ask my MP to say no to new oil and gas – will you do the same? action.friendsoftheearth.uk/…
We should be capable of building vessels like this in Scottish yards but unionist neoliberalism has ensured we no longer have the capability.
The UK is now looking at increasing the order of Vanguard vessels procured from 3 to 6 to replace the Batch 1 OPVs due to retire next year.
"Ocean going variant" could begin entering service by 2030, with interest from Norway, UK and Lithuania.

@HarrietCross_MP
This is good news. And long overdue.
But Labour must not stop here.
Jackdaw alone will not change the fortunes of the North Sea oil & gas sector or its workforce.
The same arguments in favour of Jackdaw stand across the North Sea - securing jobs and skills, protecting the energy supply chain, investment, tax receipts, security of supply.
If Andy Burnham really wants to show he is being “pragmatic”, he must also end the ban on new licences, end the energy profits levy, permit Rosebank and show that the UK backs domestic production before foreign imports.
