NEXT UP! In the theatre that is high-level high school basketball, there are many roles that must be filled in order for the show to go on. In a long season that may include injuries, sickness and other issues, depth becomes paramount. You may just need someone to step in. Outside of that, you need good players that can compete in practice, giving your top guys a run for their money when nobody is looking. Enter this quartet of dudes, a group of young, scrappy hoopers with dreams of someday being at the front of the pride, leading the way into battle. For now, they will play a role on this team that is extremely important, according to head coach Alex Daniel. “You know, at the end of the day, there are only so many minutes to go around once the games start and while I wish I could play every guy 32 minutes a night, I just can’t. At the same time, you have to have good quality players every day in practice for 120 minutes, right? So they play a huge role in terms of your preparation. Ideally, you have some younger guys that have the potential to step into those lead roles someday but just need some time to be ready. I think we have that.” Jawaun Johnson (@juwaun_johnson) leads the way for this group with his on-the-money left-handed jump shot and nasty handle. A quiet kid by nature, ‘Waun is learning to talk more and his confidence has gone thru the roof after a great summer of preparation. Of the four, he is a guy that has really begun to separate himself and looks to be a key guy in the rotation when things tip off in a couple of weeks. He’ll handle the rock a bit and he’ll play off the ball, too, providing some fire power with his shooting prowess and additional playmaking with his quickness. Only a sophomore, Johnson is a kid that has taken the feedback of his coaches and went to work improving his game…so he also looks to be a key piece well into the future, too. DaMichael Davis is also a sophomore but is built differently than…well, just about everybody else on the team. At 6-3, he’s one of the tallest Wildcats on the roster. Young and raw, Davis has untapped potential and exceptional athleticism to pair with that height. Even better, he is a hard worker that really wants to get better, and he has, slowly but surely. Earning a varsity spot was huge for the young guy’s confidence and he will only continue to improve as the season goes, giving us some length off the bench when necessary. Henry Davis III (@HenryDavisIII4), or HD3 as he’s known by his teammates, is an undersized but overconfident dynamo that might just light you up if you blink at the wrong time. A transfer from St. Joseph High School, Davis is a junior and looks to continue learning and growing in his role within the program. Known as a kid that goes 100% at all times and will never back down, Hen has been a welcome addition to the Wildcat family. Rounding things out for this fantastic four is Dominic Sanders (@DominicSanders0), a silky smooth shooting guard with deceptive speed and a knack for knocking down timely shots. A junior, he’ll space you out and knock ‘em down while barely cracking a smile. A cold-hearted sniper, he’s a guy that’s looking to grow over the next year and potentially step into a much larger role in his senior season. Together, this crew does the dirty job of going to war every day with our “stars”, giving them more than a little competition when nobody else is around. They say iron sharpens iron…well these dudes are made of steel. Sometimes, the most important roles aren’t about the glory, they’re about the team…and it’s about the show, which must ALWAYS go on. So, please believe that when the time comes, they’ll be ready! Until then, just know they are there everyday, behind the scenes, preparing as if they know they are NEXT UP! Great job fellas, thank you for your dedication and focus…WE SEE YOU! Now, get back to work, the grind continues!!!

It was a great weekend competing with my bros down at Super Hoops! We definitely got a lot better as a team this June and I can't wait until my senior season starts. Here are my numbers from the final event of my summer season with Riley...and we got it done!!!
It's been a couple of days now since South Bend Riley clinched a 2025 Super Hoops Championship. The dust has settled and the sun is shining outside in that way it only does in July...and just like that, the summer season is over. The Cats finished the @SuperHoopsCamp with an 8-2 record-with both losses coming on last second shots-and clinched the chip. Led by their senior tandem of Tyrese Jones and Isaiah Packer, Head Coach Alex Daniel's squad showed a lot of growth over a busy weekend. "That's really what the summer is all about. Coming together, growing as a team, figuring out what things are going to look like moving forward," he says. "Super Hoops is really a great experience and one of the best things about it is that things come at you so fast you don't really have time to get too up or down, you just have to stay locked in, and that's something that we preach around here. We leaned on those older guys a lot and we had some young guys really step up. Ending the summer on a good note, with a championship, really helps sets the tone moving forward, too." The older guys he refers to are the three seniors on this Wildcats roster, Tyrese Jones, Isaiah Packer and Teon Wadley. Each played a huge role in the Cats success this weekend. Jones led the team in scoring (12.4) and assists (3.0) while shooting 53% from the field. Packer was second in scoring (11.7) and led the team in both rebounds (4.5) and steals (1.2) while shooting 51% from the field and 41% from deep. Wadley took on a key reserve role and gave Riley a tremendous spark off the bench, serving as a defensive stopper and calming presence, knocking down key free throws (10/12 83%) down the stretch in multiple games to secure wins for Riley. New 'Cat Kelin Webster has fit in seamlessly with our group and continues to find his way. He put up some big games (highs of 15 points and 10 boards for the weekend) en route to 5.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting right at 50% from the field. AJ Neely is one of the younger guys that really grew up a lot this summer and it showed as he scored 5.4 points per game on 55% shooting and finished second on the squad in assists (2.1). Dontreyelle Johnson is also only a sophomore but is a key returnee for this team and he had a solid weekend as well, putting up 4.7/3.4/1.8 on 50% shooting from the field and 43% from long-range. Juwaun Johnson and Dominic Sanders also found minutes and ways to contribute throughout the weekend. It was a great team effort for the champs, which is exactly how the Wildcats do things! Overall, it was a great showing for the Wildcats at Super Hoops and a great way to finish off the summer. The Wildcats finish off June with an overall record of 15-7, with most of those losses coming against highly ranked teams. Through it all, the 'Cats stayed together, something the head coach is most focused on. "This is a long process, from here until the playoffs next year, you know? But it all matters. Everything we did this weekend and this last month will pay off down the road, no doubt. I feel good about where we're at. We've got a certain way of doing things at Riley and lot of the summer is about teaching your new guys what that looks like. It can be tough sometimes," he says with a smile. "But if we can get these guys to just stay together and just compete, we can figure out all of the other stuff, and they did that all June. This is a good group, with a lot of weapons, and they've built some great chemistry together. I'm excited for what we're going to accomplish next season!" As are we, Coach! Congrats to our guys for a great summer and a championship weekend at Super Hoops, you've made us proud! THIS IS WHAT WE DO! Now, get back to work...the grind continues!!! GO CATS!!!

The clock is ticking and it's almost time for us to join the fray in the 2025 Charlie Hughes! We'll get things started tomorrow morning against Parke Heritage and it doesn't slow down all weekend! We're hoping to see a lot of college polos in the crowd, too, because we've got a lot of guys worth looking at! The 2025 Wildcats are anchored by three main returnees from last season's semi-state run. The senior-to-be tandem of Tyrese Jones and Isaiah Packer start things out on the wings and they are joined by super soph Dontreyelle Johnson down low. Each played big minutes last year and are being looked at to provide leadership, poise, and focus this season as the 'Cats fight to maintain their standing as one of the top programs in the state! Here's a quick breakdown of each guy on our roster, for your scouting pleasure: Tyrese Jones currently leads the team in scoring and is 3rd in boards. He's a three-level scorer with a nasty pull-up game that does all of the other things well, too. A junior all-star selection last season, he entered his name into the lore of Indiana basketball history with a 45 point performance in our regional championship win. He's already picked up both NAIA and DII offers and looks to continue building momentum in what will no doubt be a stellar senior season. Isaiah Packer is 2nd in scoring and leads the team in rebounding. A key reserve on last year's Regional Championship team, he looks to step into a main role this year. Another three-level scorer, Packer has developed into a solid rebounder and playmaker and often uses his deceptive athleticism to make plays. A 40% shooter from deep last year, he's currently garnering interest from both NAIA and DIII schools and is looking to have a real breakout year for the 'Cats. Super sophomore Dontreyelle Johnson completes the returning trifecta and brings his bruising style of play-along with a knack for shooting from deep-back to the 'Cats after a great freshman season last year. Tree is currently averaging double figures in scoring and is 2nd on the team in rebounding. A solid frame belies the savvy game this kid possesses and his maturity is off the charts. He is both the present AND the future of Wildcats basketball! Add him to your watch list if your smart. The rest of the roster is filling out nicely as we look towards next season: Arreon Neely is a young point guard that is growing by leaps and bounds every day and has even carried us at times during this summer. He is a dynamic ball-handler and shot maker and is definitely someone to keep an eye on in that 2028 class. Never afraid, AJ is someone we are extremely excited about, both this year and into the future, as his development has been outrageous so far! Kelin Webster is a transfer that came over from South Bend Washington, giving us some length and athleticism, along with some range shooting. A corner specialist, Kelin has been a pleasant surprise for us this summer on the defensive end, as he never shies away from tough matchups and provides some great effort on that side of the ball. Look for him to carve out an important role on this year's squad. Teon Wadley is another 2026 guy that will be extremely important for us, bolstering our rotation, giving us some toughness, defense and playmaking off the bench. He's an all-conference running back in his off time and plays like it! A slasher with a nice jumper, too, there is no backdown in TW and we love that about him! Muri Jackson and Bradford Washington are two big, athletic guys for us, providing some strength and tenacity around the rim. Dominic Sanders is a young sniper with a quick release, looking to continue his growth and become a real contributor for us off the bench. Jawaun Johnson rounds things out for us. He's another young guard that has been watching and learning in the wings and his continued development has been great to see! So, there's a quick run through our roster, we hope it helps in the chaos that is this weekend! We are excited about where we're at AND where we're headed-and it's easy to see why with so many quality young men in our program! We'll see ya'll this weekend!!! GO CATS!!!
