Teso leaders should not politicize the arrest of Peter Elweru. He is not the first general to be arrested. Kaziini, Tumukunde, Kayihura, Birungi, Nabaasa, Namanya, Ssejjusa and others were all arrested and their regions didnโt throw tantrums or play sectarian cards. Inciting the public wonโt help unless some people know more than they are telling us and are covering up.

I have seen the statement issued by @EchoduOfficial defending the criminal, Private Elweru. Thatโs the bitterness stemming from failure to secure a ministerial appointment, because your wife refused to allow you to renounce your US citizenship. It is shame that your wife dictates your political decisions rather than the two of you making such decisions together.
First and foremost, there are absolutely no tensions in Teso. On the contrary, many people in TESO are welcoming the arrest of Private Elweru. Please stop politicising his arrest and making it a tribal dimension. We have witnessed generals from different regions of Uganda being arrested and held accountable for their actions. Security agencies arrest people suspected of committing crimes; they do not arrest entire tribes.
We are also aware that you have been financially supporting Elweru. There are four other high profile Ugandans from Teso who have also been financially supporting him, Iโm going to list their names here very soon . Anyone found financing, harbouring or facilitating a criminal or rebel should also be held accountable under the law.
Now that you have publicly demonstrated your support for someone accused of rebellion, you should expect scrutiny over your own position and involvement. Nobody should be above the law, regardless of their political connections or regional background.
Let the law take its course.

Last evening we received news of the arrest of our brother Lt Gen Peter Elwelu over security related allegations by UPDF. The news of a possible insurgency brewing in Teso have taken many people in the region by shock.
Since last evening, I have been receiving several phone calls from several opinion and Party leaders in Teso and Eastern Uganda about this matter of grave concern.
Aware of our turbulent history, We Together with other senior leaders, have embarked on a consultation with responsible institutions to ascertain the details and magnitude of the said matter. We have also informed H.E the President about the concerns of the majority of people in Teso.
For now, on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Eastern Uganda, we call upon the population in Teso and Uganda at large to remain calm as we continue engaging the responsible authorities on this matter of public interest.
Finally, as leaders and the people of Teso, we look forward to a speedy and transparent inquiry into these matters while urging the members of the public to desist from making unnecessary inflammatory statements to alarm the community in the region .

It is so sad to see NUPโs top leaders gathered at their party headquarters yesterday to pay their last respects to their loyal supporter, the late Kapere, and the highest contribution made was UGX 20,000 by Mathias Walukaga, followed by Nubian Li with UGX 5,000. Others contributed UGX 2,000, UGX 15,000, and UGX 1,000 . The total amount collected was UGX 234,500 from the 130 people who were present to pay their last respects to Kapere.
These are the same people who want Ugandans to entrust them with the leadership of our country, yet they cannot support one of their own loyal supporters in times of need. The late Kapere was struggling to raise just UGX 100,000 for his rent. When he reached out to the Leader of the Opposition, @JoelSsenyonyi, for assistance with the same amount, he was told that the LoP was also broke like him.
I would like to request anyone who is in contact with Kapereโs widow to let her know that she is welcome to come and receive my personal contribution of UGX 1 million at any time convenient for her.
I have also spoken to my brother, Hon. Mulindwa Ryan Kibedi (PLU), a director of several schools along Gayaza Road, who has generously offered me bursaries for Kapereโs children, covering their education from their current level until they complete Senior Six. Thank you so much Ryan๐
PLU is for all Ugandans, including those in the opposition. It is the spirit of patriotism, compassion and humanity that brings us together as one people, regardless of our political differences. In times of grief and need, we must remember that we are all Ugandans first. May kapeereโ soul Rest in peace.

You're not entirely accurate. The decision to not to qrite in the last two weekend is entirely my own after I disgreed with a fickle editorial slant.
According to @KakwenzaRukira, our man & East Africa's most respected legislator as shown by numerous polls, @OfwonoOpondo, has been PERMANENTLY BANNED from publishing his weekly article with the @newvisionwire!
My boda guy thinks the leadership of New Vision which he calls "The Mafia" are working overtime to fail national newspaper & Opondo's growing popularity was out of kilter with their motive to see the paper sales dropping to a few hundreds before it officially closes shop as soon as possible, so they banned him! "His popularity is the problem, do you see any other serious, brilliant & popular person who can push sales writing for the New Vision? He shouldn't have gained the new fame..." Rajab told me as we rode to work today morning...

Interestingly the Daudi Kabandas & PLU cheered when the @DailyMonitor & NMG outlets were closed by the militay for a month, from June 28th to July 28th 2026 for being bad & unpatriotic. Now they are using @DailyMonitor archives to pursue their critic & 'enemy' @OfwonoOpondo.

UPDF Commences Withdrawal of Bilaterally Deployed Troops in Somalia
The Uganda Peopleโs Defence Forces (UPDF) has embarked on the drawdown of troops deployed in Somalia under bilateral arrangements with the Federal Government effective immediately. The first cohort of troops under the phased withdrawal operation have already arrived back in Uganda. The operation to withdraw troops deployed in Somalia under bilateral arrangements will be completed in the next few days.
The UPDF will gradually withdraw all its forces in Somalia, including those currently deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) by the close of 2027. This will mark the end of Ugandaโs enduring 20-year peace and stabilization support operations in Somalia, permitting the Somali Armed Forces to assume full responsibility for security in the country.

I am deeply humbled and grateful to the people of Africa who voted for me, enabling me to emerge 2nd Runner-Up in the Unstoppable Minister African Award. Thank you for your confidence, support and recognition.
First and foremost, I give all the glory and honour to Almighty God.
I am reminded of John the Baptist, who, despite his great calling and influence, never sought personal glory. He understood that his mission was to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. In John 3:30, he declared:
โHe must increase, but I must decrease.โ
This scripture is a powerful reminder that leadership is not about personal glory, but about service, humility and giving credit where it is due.
Just like John the Baptist, I do not want to take credit for what God has enabled me to accomplish. I am only an instrument in Godโs hands.
I therefore give special credit to my mentor and Chairman, General @mkainerugaba Museveni , for his guidance, inspiration, mentorship and belief in service to our country.
I also recognise and give credit to His Excellency President @KagutaMuseveni , whose leadership and trust have given me the opportunity to serve our country and contribute to the transformation of our communities.
To the people of Uganda, my colleagues in government, the Ministry of Local Government, our local government leaders and all those working tirelessly at the grassroots, this recognition belongs to you too.
As Minister of Local Government, my commitment remains to fight corruption, protect public resources and improve service delivery. We must ensure that every cent sent to our villages, parishes, sub-counties, towns and districts is put to good use. Public resources must translate into better services and improved livelihoods for our people.
This recognition is not a reason to slow down, but a greater responsibility to serve.
The glory belongs to God, the opportunity is a privilege, and the responsibility is to serve the people.
Thank you, Africa! Thank you, Uganda .
May God bless Africa and Uganda.
