We are reaching peak bird migration in many parts of the United States. Remember to dim your lights for birds at night so that they can safely travel without becoming disoriented. 🧵

ALT A map of the United States show different colors that represent bird migration numbers. The bright yellow and orange areas on the map indicate high levels of birds migrating. The purple and pink areas of the map represent low levels of birds migrating. The map shows the central and eastern half of the country with high levels of birds migrating through. The map shows many western states with low levels of migrating birds. Text on the images shows the date of April 29, 2024 and number of birds predicted to migrate on that date, which is 353 million birds.
To mitigate bird collisions, enforce the Migratory Bird Treaty Act! New piece out in @PNASNews. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.23…

One reason fall migration is so breathtaking is you've got hordes of juvenile birds, added to millions of adult birds on their way south. 913M birds crossed Georgia last fall!—with AL, TX, MO, IA close behind. More about @DrBirdCast migration estimates: allaboutbirds.org/news/new-b…

Love the migration dashboards from @DrBirdCast. Super helpful to know when to expect high/low migrant numbers! And the expected migrants from @Team_eBird data is spot on. Except for magnolia and chestnut-sided warbler, Here are the birds dominating our sites at #springfieldbirds

The river of migrants keeps coming! Tonight @DrBirdCast estimates >400 MILLION birds in the air over the U.S., with the next two nights heavy as well. Great time to turn off nonessential lights and evaluate windows for collision hazards. bit.ly/LightsOutForBirds #LightsOutTexas

Absolutely in love with BirdCast’s (@DrBirdCast) newest features! Close to 700,000 birds were predicted in flight at multiple points over the last 8 hours - hopefully this corresponds to a fantastic morning at Bear Divide!
