I strongly encourage leaders [principals, senior leaders] and teachers to listen: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcas…. Culture is creating safety, where individuals feel safe to take risks, and who can become the best version of themselves.

Oral language development in classrooms must be ORGANIC and INTENTIONAL. This requires a few components: 1. New expectations for student talk/ discourse. 2. A teacher toolbox/ menu of go-to strategies. 3. Permission to take the time to build language throughout the day.

Also a great structure for coaches and admins! It seems so simple, but we often skip the Ask step with glows straight to glows or stop at asking without layering in a connected suggestion. @GaDOESDI @CoxCampus @georgiadeptofed – at Athens, GA
The TAG Critique Protocol can be used in any grade or subject! Students and teachers love its simplicity and how it scaffolds the development of essential critique skills. Try it out in your next project, and let us know how it goes! bit.ly/2Vkypui

Now the question is: How many are willing and humble enough to grow/evolve/change in the presence of the yielded facts from research? Those who have an uncompromising desire to do what is right for kids will seek to abandon instructional practices that take away from kids as much as 15 instructional days and substitute them for evidence-based practices. Making this shift does not require any purchasing. It simply requires the unyielding desire to not leave kids behind. shanahanonliteracy.com/blog/…

Great commentary here about what spelling instruction CAN look like. Integrating it with fluency and vocabulary seems 🔑…
I think we need to envision a different way. Incorporate spelling, vocabulary, and fluency together. Words by a certain sound like /shun/. Make the words hard and use a progression for teaching them with spelling. Today, I taught 4 of these words meanings & we practiced spelling
