At a recent conference I decided to do something a bit different for my poster - and it paid off. I finally realised, a poster should be about starting conversations, not just showing results. This got me thinking #blog #SciComm @Better_Posters

Did you know that side-shoots must be manually removed from commercial cucumber vines? This IN BRIEF @ThePlantCell summarises a study of genes controlling cucumber tendrils and branching and their potential to increase agricultural productivity academic.oup.com/plcell/arti… #PlantSci
For a summary of an interesting paper revealing one way plants can respond to unexpected cold snaps, see my latest IN BRIEF (clue: it involves temperature-sensitive changes in protein localisation 😉)

I did not expect to see the November sun today @HHU_de. Happy Friday!
It's normal to be excited by the appearance of a new tape dispenser in the lab, right? Look at all the *colours* 🌈🤩
This is exactly what you don't want to see when you sequence the plasmid you former student cloned and proceeded to use in their thesis 🥲🥲🥲 A PSA to ALWAYS SEQUENCE PLASMIDS PEOPLE GIVE YOU (AKA don't trust anyone) #PostDocLife
Super excited to be included in the line up of @ThePlantCell AFEs for 2024. Summarising entire articles into a 600 word highlight will be a good way to hone my #SciCom skills 😄 looking forward to the challenge and working with the team!
The Plant Cell welcomes 2024 Assistant Features Editors. Congratulations to all of our successful applicants. We look forward to working with this terrific group of early career researchers in 2024! buff.ly/3Qe4O5g @ASPB

Saw this poster at the Plants and People conference at MPI in Golm last Wednesday and really loved it. It’s how I imagine effective communication between scientists and the general public. Great work @DrVickyHowe 👏🏼
You might think of #SciCom as a formal, deliberate act. Actually, it can be as "simple" as explaining what you do to your friends/family/kids. In this #blog I talk about the challenges of explaining science to non-scientists

I found this strange (to my Australian eyes) spidey on my balcony, then a few days later the same type of spider hiding in an apple orchard. What is it? And why are its legs alternating lengths?
I may have sustained a small ice burn in the process (😬) but look how frost-free our -80 is now 😁 that's my achievement for the day #postdoclife
Oh... You don't store your cut flowers in scientific glassware?
