Instead of adhering to rigid and artificial constructs, antitrust enforcers should focus their energies on realizing the progressive purpose of the antitrust laws, namely to combat the exploitative abuse of market power that operates to the detriment of competition and consumers.

Elon Musk is wrong.
The main function of the H-1B visa program is not to hire “the best and the brightest,” but rather to replace good-paying American jobs with low-wage indentured servants from abroad.
The cheaper the labor they hire, the more money the billionaires make.

If the Democratic Party is to become a democratic party, the first job of a new DNC Chair is to get super-PAC money out of Democratic primaries.
AIPAC and other billionaire-funded super-PACS cannot be allowed to select Democratic candidates.

1. Since the new line on why antitrust is bad is the Spirit Airlines bankruptcy, let's talk about what is really happening. Here's a hint. The CEO of Spirit was paid a $3.8 million bonus the week before the bankruptcy. But you don't hear about that. wlrn.org/business/2024-11-18…

The working class of this country is angry.
They have a reason to be angry.
The very wealthy are doing phenomenally well, while 60% of us are living paycheck to paycheck.
It’s time to get big money out of politics and create an economy that works for the people.
Once again, Bernie is exactly right.

This is a very bad night.
Some of us spent years warning Dems to take working-class politics more seriously & to not tout neocons. We did so in hopes of avoiding this & yet we were vilified as traitors by Dem elites & liberal pundits.
There's a lesson here.
Goodnight.
It seems that the “adults in the room” keep blaming the @FTC for tilting at windmills even though they JUST KEEP WINNING. The hipsters are on the right side of history, economics and the law.

Amazon should know by now that when you mess with Queens, Queens stands up and fights back. Proud to join @Teamsters Amazon drivers this morning to remind Jeff Bezos: it was workers who made him rich, and those workers deserve a fair contract and a safe workplace

ALT Senator Gianaris wears a dark coat and stands at a podium that says "Teamsters" while pointing and speaking into the microphone. Behind him, elected officials and union organizers are gathered in front of a large inflatable caricature of a corporate boss (a bloated pig wearing an expensive watch and holding a bag of money while smoking a cigar).

It’s the 110th anniversary of the enactment of the Clayton Antitrust Act. Its reach was immense, and advocates continue to work hard every day to fulfill the law’s full promise, empowering workers and restraining corporations. Here's a great quote from the legislative history👇

The FTC just did something so obvious, it now has a web form where anyone can submit comments on mergers that it is investigating.
Lina Khan is a monster! ftc.gov/enforcement/merger-r…
If you care about American democracy and prosperity, listen to what Lina has to say.
Voters say inflation is their number one issue. Lina Khan, the youngest ever to chair the Federal Trade Commission, thinks that corporate consolidation helps drive prices up on everything from food to concert tickets. cbsn.ws/3XAJJob

A market with many smaller, less profitable companies is almost certain to be more innovative, more productive, and more resilient to disruptions than a market dominated by a few large, highly profitable giants.

Inspiring.
The best, nerdy kind of Friday evening in the Bronx watching two generational talents @RepAOC @linakhanFTC engage with people about how to fight and win against monopolies. LFG team antimonopoly 💥 💪🏾

23 years later, an entire generation has come of age in a post 9/11 world. Amidst the painful memories, today I feel grateful for those who pledged to #NeverForget, ensuring that younger New Yorkers like my own children understand the weight of that day and remember those we lost

Mario Draghi is focused on growth, competition enforcement is not the main deal. But technocratic narrow-minded competition enforcement is getting what it deserves.
Worst of all worlds: stubborn lack of vision by enforcers and supporting academic fandom in the last 5 years as the political economy twitched. Self congratulatory “Brussels effect” fixation on digital regulation as if it could lift us out of the gloom and put points on GDP.
Now the pendulum truly swung, industrial policy and billions in investments - stop conflating with “national champions”. Of course this will be weaponised by bad monopolists, defence complex and Big Tech proxies. Self inflicted wounds.
Those wailing on the sanctity of Market Definition: you’re so off the mark I don’t know where to start with you. Enforcement on neoliberal automatic pilot for years without questioning what are we really doing.

Happy Labor Day! Let's remember the roots of this holiday which date back to the first Labor Day parade, held here in NYC - a celebration of the strength, spirit, and achievements of organized workers and labor unions
Not only that #TinyTrump’s policies are small minded, petty, and benefit only a tiny fragment of society. This is why his #crowdsize is tiny compared with Kamala’s.
Tiny Trump is exactly that. He’s small and weak. He’s a coward who calls people names. He lies about election results because he knows he’s a loser. He picks weird running mates to make himself look good. He’s small in every way.

Fantastic thread from @matthewstoller. While #antitrusters are quick to cite to #tacitcollusion or #monopolization law to excuse this conduct, those arguments only underline why our 100+ year old antitrust laws need amending.
1. Ok why is Kamala Harris talking about price-fixing, gouging, mergers, and general pricing bullshit? Obviously it polls well. But why? Let's go over the *evidence* for why Americans are mad at big business over pricing. Let's start with rent. propublica.org/article/yield…
If @KamalaHarris and @Tim_Walz are serious about combatting price gouging, start with the #pharmaceutical industry and amend the Robinson Patman Act to ensure that foreign consumers no longer free-ride on the high prices charged to Americans. #antitrust #PriceGouging
Amend Sec 2 of the Clayton Act to provide: "the sale of a prescription drug by a manufacturer outside the US shall be deemed to be the sale of that prescription drug within the US and...[cont]
